...paws! Dave has finally relented and we're getting a cat! It's my birthday on Thursday, so the cat will be my birthday present. We had the homecheck today and passed with flying colours. We are going to see Harry on Wednesday night, and if we like him (and he likes us!) we'll pick him up on Sunday.

I can't wait - we always had animals when I was at home and I've missed having them around.

I am pleased for you, I know how much you have wanted this. I have two babies which I have had since birth. One is a boy who is called cole because he is black with a little white mostache, he is sooo lovely, I call him my mucnchy mostache boy. The other is a girl who is called syra, she is just so small and cute and is being neutered at the end of the month, cole has to wait for things to drop. Anyhow, I really hope Harry turns out to be the bees knees. Please remember to get insurance for him, my munchy boy has cost me a small fortune in vets fees because he has an allergy to plastic.

lily, I didn't know kit cats could be allergic to plastic! One of my boys has an allergy but I don't know what to. How did you narrow it down? They get into everything!

I am really after a greyhound that is at a rescue centre that I donate to when I can afford it, she is called Grace and is the most kind lovely looking dog I have ever seen. I know I can't have her as have my boy but am on at my dad to get her as he loves dogs and walking but since his beloved dog Tara died a while ago he is dogless..

I wouldn't be without my 5 guys. They keep me sane, make me laugh every day, love unconditionally (if I have a can of tuna) and I adore them.

His Royal Feline Lordship Tiger Tiberius Maximus, a.k.a. Tiber, says that Harry is a very lucky guy. And yes, that's his name because it's on his official pet-passport paperwork! - long story involving a USA vet without a sense of humour, and a Brit (me) with a wicked one.

I also have "Miss Lily Whiskers", Pandora, Cleopatra and Robbie the ginga ninja.

Not to forget Cara my border collie and 3 ferrets!

As you can imagine, Melanie has a *bit* of a challenge when helping me sort out my I&E for my IVA!

Harry is a lucky guy. Paws crossed that everything works out well. Is he coming form Cats Protection or the RSPCA?

Hi Pixie

To be honest I didnt know either and I found out myself. My boy came out in spots on his chin and they got infected, he was miserable. I took him to the vet and was given AB's and a steroid injection, he mentioned something about immune suppressed cats, scared the wits out of me. Anyhow, I looked it up on the net and cats do get (feline acne or dirty chin). It can be caused by plastic (plastic harbours bacteria). The vet started saying all sorts of things that I knew (I have a medical degree, stepdaughter is a trainee vet) didnt sound right ie steriods would sort his immune problems out, I dont think so, and he needed to do a biopsy to find the cause, (errr fat chance, me thinks). Anyhow I looked on the net and there it was; my boys rash. I changed the food bowls, wash his chin with aloe vera baby wipes (anti bacterial soap is good too as is tea tree).

He is on steroids and AB therapy for this week as his lips were still swollen from the infection but the rash has cleared up. He was fed with plastic bottles from the day he was born and that is a contributing factor to his allergy.

poor little thing, I hope he's feeling better soon. My boy gets sores all over, mainly his back but he has had them grow into quite nasty ulcer like lumps sometimes. I've used steroid cream but he has some tablets that work quite well. Not sure what they are! He has been quite ill in the past and had to have injections every few days. Blood tests showed he was fighting an allergy. The vet just put it down to something like a plant that he was coming into contact with outside.

The poor thing, I can see it would be quite difficult to pin that down unless patch tests work on cats. I hope he is OK, its quite difficult getting tablets down them isnt it???

My boy is so much happier now, thanks, the vet seems to think it will be over with this latest set of AB's and steriods I will continue with the wipes so fingers crossed. He is right back to his Mr bond missions, yeah, theres a really important leaf blowing in the wind that needs some serious chasing.

I wouldn't be without my two babies (Jack Russells), the loving looks and the welcome everytime I walk through the door reminds me that 'someone' needs me, regardless of how bad things get.

What did you mean by a home-check? Did the RSPCA have to come round or something to make sure all M**U** stuff was easily accessible for scratching? [:D]

That's great news, I've always been a cat person but like dogs aswell. We have 3 cats, did have 4 but one got out when we moved and sadly must have been killed on the road because he never came back. They are all rescue cats, pure white large tom, long haired cream and white queen and black & white queen. The youngest is expecting, any day now!!! It's funny watching her waddle about, I remember when I did when I was preggers.....lol. Hubby can't stand cats so it just goes to show how spoilt I am......

Dave's pretending that he's not really interested but I know he is! As well as Harry (my choice) we are waiting to hear if we can look at a ginger and white cat called KT who is Dave's choice. In a way I hope we don't hear about him and only see Harry as I'm hopeless making decisions, especially if there's a cute little face looking up at me and miaowing at me!

As I've said, hubby can't stand cats but they all love him!!!! They lie on his lap and fall asleep, must admit he never moves them so I think he's just pretended to dislike them.....not macho enough for him, lol.
