Well it finally arrived this morning as Karol promised. The elusive completion certificate after a bit of a rough last lap through overpaid fees and PPI. We started way back in 2006 and just avoided another anniversary on Aug 1st when it would have been 27 months since our last payment . Anyone thinking if an iva is the right thing to do I would still say go for it and eventually you will be debt free and goodness me that is a wonderful feeling . Just one word of warning. Read these posts and choose carefully who you would like to go with. If you have found this forum then you are one step away from a debt free life. Thank you again for all your support and good luck to everyone looking toward the light at the end of the tunnel

Make sure you frame it Geordie, and find an appropriate place to hang it up! Just like I have to put fat pictures of myself on my fridge, to stop me eating, you may need to have a little reminder of the pain the IVA has caused you to stop you overindulging in credit in the future!

As a matter of interest, how did you choose your IP firm in the first place, and what would you do differently that you could advise other posters who may be thinking of entering into an IVA to look for?
Regards, Melanie Giles, Insolvency Practitioner

Melanie you are so right especially about the fat photo !! I did think about framing it but then do I really want visitors to see what a fool we have been in not keeping a check on our finances. I am not bothered about credit scores as never never will we ever get credit again. If we can't pay cash we don't get.
We chose in desperation without really knowing anything about an IVA but had to get help from someone. We chose Blair Endersby and they were so helpful but in the last months of our 5 years they were taken over by Grant Thornton. If I had discovered this forum at the beginning we could have maybe chosen differently and I must admit would probably have approached you to help us. I would encourage anyone with financial troubles to make that call and although it is not easy the 5 years really goes quickly and when you see what you have paid into your iva at the end it is scary to see how different life would have been without credit cards and loans

Great news Geordie --- did it come in the post or was there a girl's marching band ?

I think it is a crying shame that all of the good work GT do during the running of the IVA, as has been my experience, is dashed on the rocks at this final, and what should be triumphal, stage.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
