I think most of us know MP's and politicians in general are liars, cheats and only interested in their own means.
Having said that, the latest statement from Cameron about cutting the binge drinking element of society by raising the minimum unit price of alcohol to combat this phenomenom is total fabrication and disguised as another tax increase on the true social drinker.
The recent budget never mentioned an increase in tax on alcohol as they usually do, why? because they hit us days later with this 'brainwave' on doing away with the loutish behaviour caused by cheap booze.................bo****ks, they are penalising the majority of sensible, low consumption drinkers and claiming to be the saviours of society. I look forward to a glass of wine every now and then but when these new measures come in to force it will be more never than now.
To all those who voted these aliens into power......... thanks for nothing!

What I think they should do is clamp down on the 'Happy Hours' in nightclubs etc and the cheap pints and shots - it tends to be after they stagger out of those that the problems begin.

To be honest Andy, I don't think it matters who is voted in - they're all as bad as one another and even if Labour had got in I think you would have had something along similar lines. Scotland have had this for a while. Whether it works or not I don't know.

I think they should clamp down on the actual drunks -- not quite sure how yet --- Police haven't the resources. Maybe some heavy (£100) fixed penalties issued on the spot and a bill for Police and hospital time.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

I would make anyone who needs medical treatment due to being drunk pay for the treatment. I would also stop supermarkets selling cheap alcohol - there is no need for them to sell cheap own brand stuff and especially not value alcohol.

I would also clamp down on shops that sell alcohol to underage drinker and I don't just mean the off licences and corner shops. If supermarkets keep selling alcohol to underage drinkers I would strip the licence from the whole chain.

I believe one of the new proposals is that drunks will be refused treatment in A&E if its alcohol rated.

They should perhaps stop alcohol sales in supermarkets full stop. When I was a kid the only place you could get it from was the offie attached to the pub.

I agree about stopping selling alcohol in supermarkets, and I definitely wouldn't allow it to be sold in petrol stations.

Totally agree with that. Always thought it was a stupid thing to do.

There is a time and place for a drink - and the price of it in supermarkets is silly - so cheap and all it does is encourage more people to drink too freely ! I like to have a drink or two at weekends, but for some people supermarkets have made it just too easy for them to go over the top !

Jan, I agree about no matter which party 'run' the country they're all as bad as each other but it's the way this shower have lauded themselves using the precept of having inherited all of these problems from the previous lot.
Luluj, supermarket prices are silly but only made that way by competition which is what the Conservatives were always promoting in the Thatcher era and why companies were privatised.
But why not be truthful and tell us that the prices are going to increase to raise revenue and not to 'save society from itself'.............oh yeah, truthful and politics, not two words that are heard at all in the same sentence......apart from this one.
I think I need a drink, if only I had the cash[:D]
