The Dentist!

We both finally got to the dentist yesterday. I'm so nervous about having to get a tooth out and a filling how soft is that! I've a fear of the dentist. My gran worked for one and when I was very young sometimes I did not know if 'we are going to see your nanna' meant I was getting the black gas mask. Oh no, I'll be sweating until 16th November to get this done I may even take the fire exit out of there if I get too nervous.

Hubby has just had one out after suffering dfor a couple of weeks and an ill fated attempt by the dentist to fill it that didn't work.

Thankfully I've not had to have anything done for years but I do go every six months.

how long roughly did it take to get the tooth out Jan?

I don't know as I wasn't there. Last time I needed one out it came out as sweet as a nut with no pain at afterwards. I was glad as we were going on holiday that night!

Getting a tooth out is quite painful but not too bad .. all the numbing stuff is cool you cant feel your mouth for ages after and trying to drink is funny! good luck with yours hope it goes ok mate!

Oscar I totally empathise with you, I am terrified of the dentist too. I do go every six months for fear of having bad teeth, pre-IVA I paid for sedation just to have teeth cleaned! Hadn't had it done since IVA acceptance but last time I went I let the dentist clean them, it was a big step for me. I'll let him do it again, he did it himself and didn't send me to the Hygienist. I do go private and hubby goes NHS as there is no way I'm changing dentist, not even to save money!

It's not soft at all it's a fear. I wish you all the best with your appointment and hope it's as pain free as possible. My hubby had a lot of dental work earlier this year and it hasn't bothered him so I'm sure you'll be fine. Be thinking of you x

My dentist is NHS and does his own cleaning, no hygienist employed and both him and his wife are excellent.

The dentist doesn't bother me. I did go through a stage of being scared after my last dentist hurt me, but my new one is fine.

I was supposed to go for a check up a couple of months ago but I postponed it so I now go every 9 months. She did tell me to see the hygienist last time but I still haven't been as I haven't been able to afford the £45! She had told me my teeth were in excellent condition so I'm not too worried about not going!

My last trip cost £47 which covered the check up, any fillings or extractions I needed (thankfully I didn't) and a scale and polish.

Again u are not alone Oscar - I have a huge problem with fear of the dentist - but I do go every 6 months & try to overcome anxiety everytime I go!

Next week my eldest needs a small filling & he is only 8! Not getting to his back adult teeth properly. He has had one small filling done before, but had such a bad experience & I was so upset after, I'm having to get my hubby to take him because I just can't bare to watch him go through it again. I'm hoping as he has been thro it once - he may be better prepared, it's hard trying to explain to a child something not nice but has to be done & that u fear yourself.

I'm dreading it

Actually I lied about the price! Mine was £17 as I just had the check up and a scale and polish, it was hubbys that cost £47 as he had the extra treatment.

Worth getting an NHS dentist if you can.

Hubby has one but I just can't change due to fear, so one of us is saving money. They've done a good job with him and he's more than happy with the service.
