Hi All,
I am about to end my IVA (November). It has been gruelling but I am glad it is about to end.

However, I am very distressed today as out of the blue I received in the post a letter from a company called Mercantile Data Bureau Ltd claiming to be acting on behalf of Barclays (one of my creditors) for a large debt I used to have with them. As far as I was aware this had already been sorted out/
The lady at that company has called me back now and said that the company was not aware an IVA was in place! - I am terrified and not sure what to do or where to turn to. I have written to my supervisor (Grant Thornton - the IVA was set up by Accuma initially) and emailed them with this information.
I hope it is all just a confusion and it gets sorted out as I do not how I would cope if at this stage of the game, and at 40, I have to go bankrupt.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

J

Hi,

Please don't worry the debt will have been included and they can do nothing to you.

Your debt has been sold on which is probably why they are saying this.

Send the letter to GT and let them deal with it.

Many "bad debts" are sold on -- and, from what I gather, not all the purchasers are aware of IVA's in place on some debts they buy. However, that is a matter between them and the original creditor as the debt is protected by the IVA.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

As others say try not to worry and if the debt has been sold on then it will have been included. GT will hopefully sort it all on your behalf enabling you to conclude your IVA in November x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

This shouldn't really happen as the company selling on the debt should inform the purchaser that an iva is in place!

Our egg debt has been sold on. Hope they didn't pay much for it!

Hi jiele - as the others have said, don't worry, you have done the right thing by contacting your IP. I send anything on to them now and let them sort things. Still getting letters from Creation finance and Barclaycard for OH and it's nearly a month since ours was approved. I have already been warned that some debts will be sold on and the new companies will contact us but not to worry so it's obviously becoming more common.
Well done for getting so far! I bet you are counting down the months now!!

HI
I have'nt had anything like that sent to me I just get a yearly update from some company and says what I have paid and whats left I was told by my IVA team that anything that I get sent by anybody in relation to my debts to forward it to them and they will deal with them As people have said you are in the IVA nobody can touch you dont worry about it
Another point I see in here
Before your IVA and you are getting threatening calls or chasing you up on your phone everyday Just tell them that you want your number deleting from there records and database Under the Data Protection Act and if they call you again you will seek legal advice and report them I got a young lad from Barclaycard called me at work I told him that and most likely scared the hell out of him as I was a bit stressed out And lo I was never called again As far as I know as long as they can contact you by letter then thats all they need So at least it stops the phone calls and missed messages My IVA team also told me that information too

Hi, One of our business debts was sold on but I called them and explained we were in the IVA and the guy was really nice and said he would close the file, we have not heard anything since so fingers crossed we don't. We have had the odd letter from the business bank but just forwarded this to the IVA company who have contacted them. Like others have said send everything to you IP for them to deal with.
