Yesterday we (my partner and i) took the first steps towards an IVA by contacting Melanies team.

It was our new years resolution to accept our debt and find a solution... We looke dinto an IVA in January through Clearstart but because at the time we had a mortgage, secured and unsecured loans with Northern Rock an IVA was not viable due to them having a high percentage of our debt and that they would probably say no..

Well since January we have sold our property and our now in rented , my partner had changed jobs so he can now cycle to work, i am starting an evening job enabling us to propose more money in an IVA.

Last night i slept wonderfully knowing that we are trying to sort ourselves out, however i am still so scared that we are going to be refused, i don't know why . We have already opened a joint different bank account with Barclays as our excisting sole accounts are with Lloyds (we both have overdrafts, loans with lloyds too)

We are today changing our direct debit details over and wage payments but we are both worried in case an IVA doesn't get approved won't we owe are old bank (lloyds) arrear payments and charges for not paying the loans??

Advice would be much appreciated
Tanya

Firstly well done for facing your problems. That takes a lot of courage.

Secondly the worries you are feeling are all completely normal.

Lloyds TSB are actually good at accepting IVAs, they were hubbys main creditor who he owed the most to but they accepted.

If for any reason your IVA is not accepted, you could then look into either a DMP or bankruptcy. But for now, try not to worry. See what Melanie and her team can do for you first.

Its good to know that Lloyds accepted your partners as they too are a large part of our debt. Its scary that our quality of life is in the hands of others and tat they can say yes or no...

We don't hink a DMP would suit us as we have a 8 month old baby and need the stability of knowing eactly what we pay and that it can't be changed willy nilly so to speak.

We no longer have any assets so bankruptcy would have to be our next option. that way we can start a fresh but we wanted to try an IVA first as we WANT to pay our creditors back.

This will prob sound so silly and irratic but was i right to give my account details over the phone to your team Melanie? Is that normal practice? Ive obviously Not done this before and do worry with so much ID theft being all over the place. Not that anyone would want to steal my ID !!!

we are also with Melanie and we have our creditors meeting in 2 weeks.. the weight just seems to lift off your shoulders when you speak to her team.

we were also with lloyds tsb both with an overdraft, me with a loan and hubby with a credit card. they still have taken loan payment from my account even though there is nothing in it except now a bigger overdraft.. spoke to Melanies team and they said this would be ok.

Good luck!!
Ang.. 13 payments in.. WOW, thats over 20% paid!! http://angela18.blogs.iva.co.uk/ well here we go

Hello Tanya

I hope it all goes well for you in your journey to becoming debt free.

I'm at the end of my IVA and althought it's been a long hard slog to be able to say that my last payment is due on the 24th April and that my first paypacket all to myself is due at the end of May is amazing!

Keep with it... never think your doing the wrong thing... and it'll soon fly past.

Melanie's amazing and has advised me constantly on this site and her advice always gives you the support you need.

Good luck
