Hi and welcome to the forum,

I can understand you feeling stressed, we've all been there. Unfortunatley, you will get calls and letters until the IVA is up and running. You can change your telephone number or just keep telling them you're in the process of setting up an IVA. You can give them your IP details too. However, most calls come out of a call centre and regardless of what you say, the calls keep coming.

Use the forum to get you through the difficult times xx

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum too, please try not to feel ashamed you're doing soemthing to remedy your debt problems. Creditor contact comes in many forms and affects us all in different ways, one thing we have in common though is we've all been through it and we can support you through this.

As Julie says stick around and use the forum for any advice or support you need. We'll help you get there, there are options of not answering the phone at all, caller display will enable you to filter out unwanted calls and then you could change your number as I know other posters have done. All the best x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I'm glad you have got the ball rolling and hopefully, once an IVA is in place it will ease a lot of your current stress.

You will find once your IP has sent out your proposal to creditors, calls will start to lessen. This doesn't always happen straight away, and there are always normally one or two who don't update their systems centrally, but in any event either ignore the calls, change your number or keep referring them on to your IP.

Any letters you get should be faxed/forwarded to your IP, as this will help them when drafting your documentation, as it will have all the up to date figures and addresses etc.

I hope you get things sorted soon, hang in there..it will be a relief once it's sorted and the hardest part is nearly over.

Good luck and let us know how you get on
Kind regards,

Hi Stewart, and welcome from me as well.

Don't worry about the calls - we have all had them and the letters. You can speak to them or not, it won't make any difference to whether you are accepted or not. I just used to write to mine.

Hi Stewart and welcome to the family for a debt free future.

I am currently in the pre-proposal stage and at the beginning, I spoke the the creditor call centre people. I don't any more, my house phone in un plugged and I ignore their calls on the mobile, you get to know the numbers. Barclaycard are calling me upward of 6 times a day! Some of the letters I have received can be quite cruel but that is what they are designed to do, make you feel like a naughty child. I ignore the letters too because it's just the tactics they use to make you feel ashamed, I bet these companies paid marketing consultants many thousands of pounds to come up with these letters......so don't feel ashamed as you have taken steps to rectify your situation.

You're on the right road and now you have found this forum you have a wealth of experience to help you through the process.

Good luck xxx

i used to write to my creditors and tell them that I would not speak to them over the phone and I used to tell them what was happening.

Letters I could cope with, bullying phone calls I could not!

Now look - don't be ashamed, look at my username (which I must change soon!) - its daft - you've got in a mess with your money like everyone on this site (apart from the professionals!)

Don't worry about the calls - if you read my posts from 2 weeks ago, my hubby didn't even know I had got into £70k's worth of debt - it was the worst week of my life so far (and his probably), but we're getting there - he talks to me now like he used to! - he answered the telephone tonight and told Barclaycard to stop calling, they had the letter and knew the score.

These people are trying to bully you - keep stating what you are doing and just repeat yourself, they will get bored. Yes, its scary and I am not trying to make light of it at all, but its just someone on the end of the phone "doing their (horrible) job"

We're all here by your side to help - 2 weeks ago I was a mess, and this forum got me through the weekend - keep posting hun - and all will be well ok?

Chin up lovely and jump on your computer when you're down - someone will be here to lift you

xxxx

soashamed - I am so glad that things are getting back to normal.

s_cs the people who work for the creditors work to a script, they are on commission. Don't let them bother you.

You can always come on here for advice and to have a rant.

Hi and welcome

Try to ignore the calls as much as you can. I unplugged my phone and ignored the calls of my mobile so I managed to avoid most of them. If I did speak to anyboby I told them I was arrranging an IVA and if they kept going on I put the phone down. It will get better.
We have all been there with the guilt and stress. I still feel guilty but tell myself at least I have done something about it.
Good Luck,
Linda

Hello Stewart

Seems you have been given some great advice so would just like to add as Soashamed and others have pointed out....you do not need to feel ashamed.....up until a few months ago I never even new about IVA's yet here I am. Like yourself and others I have got myself into this debt nightmare but what you will soon realise is theres a way out.

Use these forums to help you through....I have and believe me they have been wonderful. You will have up's and down's but one thing I can guarantee is you will always have someone on here who will either pick you up off the floor or share the good times. Keep your chin up.

Cath I hope the calls subside.....some of these Companies really are leaches of the highest order, yet others can be sympethetic and understanding and I think get a bad name because of the attempts at recovery from a minority.
I came into this world with nothing and still have most of it left!
