I know I said I wasn't going to post for awhile but the two posts I did reply too struck a cord in me and I had to write summat. Can't keep me kneb out can I LOL.

Went to see a specialist today and have been told I have to go into hospital next week for a simple procedure. The problem is I can't drive there because I am unable to drive for 36 hours after the op. I live 20 miles from the hospital and have checked the prices of taxis and it will cost me £30 each way which after this last months expenses I don't have. The hospital have said I need the 'procedure' urgently and to get medical transport. The reason I need to be in hospital the day before is because there are certain drugs I need to take to prepare me. This has to start at 8.00 am Tuesday morning. Medical transport is not available until 9.30 at the earliest and it being a medibus it will have to travel to collect other patients, which means I may get into hospital for 11.30 - 12.00 noon if lucky. Great innit ... just read the pamphlet about the procedure and it has scare me witless. Don't know what to do now ... really confused :(.

I'm sorry to hear you've got to go into hospital Ray and that you're having problems getting there. If I lived nearer I'd give you a lift.

Just a thought - as well as the bus, does your GP or hospital have voluntary car transport? My mum has got to go to hospital on Thursday and a car (rather than a bus) will pick her up. She has to pay for it, but it's only a nominal amount, and much cheaper than taxis.

Look after yourself, and love to Mrs Wizz xxxxx

Ray, I'm sorry to hear that you have to go into hospital. I'm sure this procedure will make you feel better though. They all make you worried when you read about them don't they?

I agree with Skippy - our local hospital does volunteer hospital pick ups as well, so you might find that yours does.

Good luck, and I hope that you manage to get it done and it sorts you out.

Big hug to you and Mrs Wizzz.

Thanks Kali and Skippy ... my hospital only does Medibus they say and it has to be booked at least 4 days in advance. I postponed the treatment until a) I can ge me head around it and b) I can sort out transport. Needless to say me doc is not a happy doc.

Ray, I wished I lived closer to you. I take it none of your neighbours could sort you out with a lift?

We have something called 'Ring and Ride' in the Midlands, where you can get taken to various places and I don't think it costs you, you just have to make an appointment.

Do you have anything like that near to you?

Ray,

Sorry to but in here but youre far more important than an IVA. Tell your IP you have to pay less this month. NHS do not insist on doing proceedures if they are not essential.

Please get there whatever it takes. You live miles from me so I cannot help you with transport.

I know from my own stint in the NHS that transport has to be book way in advance. Ring and ride here do, I think also, our patients used to all come together for their appointments on a similar scheme in the city I worked in.

Please post back and say youre going.
Love

Let us know how you get on Ray.

I agree with Lily that your health is far more important and if you doc says you need to go in and have this done urgently, then you should do it.

Just got back from the doc's and at last he's actually told me what they are looking for .... cancerous or pre-cancerous cells in the colon/bowel. Things just get better don't they LOL. At least I now know what they are more concerned about, but I have another 'urgent' appointment on Saturday of all days with the heart specialist, plus they want another armful of blood on Friday ... anyone know where I can trade in for a new bod???

I think I might log off and glare at the cat [8D]

Ray, I wish there was something I say or do. I am so sorry to hear about your news, but look on the bright side - they might not find anything.

Hope you get good news on Saturday.
