Some positive news about Grant Thornton for a change.
After getting the much written about diabolical service from the closures team I took up Melanie's very kind offer to act as a 'go between' to encourage them to answer me. I was contacted by a variations manager (Kelly) immediately and well.......I received the very best of customer service just as I had before my case went to closures.
I hope this reassures those of you who are with Grant Thornton and not yet at closure. You can probably expect an excellent service. I just hope that the closures fiasco is sorted out very soon as it lets the whole company down.
I am still waiting but understand why and how things will progress so much better now.
So many, many thanks to Melanie and G.T's Kelly and here's hoping you all get the resolutions you deserve.
As should all the other IVA providers! It is absolutely shocking what is occuring at the moment and for another IP to have to intervene albeit a very good outcome says it all really.
Well done sterling on getting it sorted out, Melanie is definately one of a kind.
Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.
IVA COMPLETED August 2012, received Completion certificate 18.4.13.
I must say, although I am concerned about the smoke and mirrors being employed over the PPI issue and variations, that the service I have received (as have others I know of) has been exemplary (even if I don't always like the answer -- but such is life). I have had very fast and helpful replies to all of my queries (and I can be a bit of a pest) and I feel I am being looked after well.
I do appreciate, however, that this PPI fiasco is a monumental mess.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
Glad to see all is in the process of being resolved - I am happy to help where I can, but it is important that no IP should tread too far over the toes of another - as I would not appreciate that intervention within my own practice.
Well done Mel....a real star on this forum and for a lot of people your ongoing help and support whether a customer to your own firm or not you go that extra mile means so much !
Sharing from experiences of dealing with debt
There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !
Likewise I got a call after Mel intervened. We had a pleasant chat and the young lady agreed to do several things which were summarised in an email. However, since then there has been no follow up on any of the actions. It really is 2 steps forward and 1 step back.
Mel is worth her weight in gold and its good to see that even though it was not a complaint from one of her clients she still cares enough to try and get a solution, perhaps GT should be taking a leaf out of Mel's books
Totally agree with you there 4kidsnocash, Melanie should be an educator of IP's i think, that way the standard of communication will be one of gold! xx

Hi all I am new to the forum and wonder if you can help. I am currently with Grant Thornton. my 5 year IVA term finished Jan 2012 and I was promised a certificate of completion would be sent through within 6 months. After 7 months I contacting the closure team who told me it was being done and to be patient. I then contacted them in Oct 2012 and was told the same. I contacted them again in Dec 2012 and was told it was being sent with the Jan closure run. I then get an email end of Jan 2013 to tell me a new process has come about... in relation to PPI.
They are now telling me my certificate wont be issued until I let them claim PPI and pay my creditors. As far as i'm aware my IVA finished and I paid back everything I was suppose to in the 5 year term not missing a single payment and paying them 50% of anything over my agreed amounth... so why now am I being held to ransom to claim PPI and give it to my creditors before a certificate can be issued surely there is some protection for me as this seems incredibly bad practice as if they had closed it when they should of done I wouldn't be going through this whole new process in relation to PPI.
I guess this has already been answered but I cant find a topic on here that answers my specific question. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm getting very upset and stressed about this and just need to know what my legal and non legal options are to get this IVA closed with a certificate. I get they want to claim as much money back as possible but surely after struggling through 5 years to get this all paid off why cant i claim my own PPI to help me get back on the straight and narrow and actually have a life?
Steve - welcome to the forum - you right this question has been answered hundreds of times. Depending on your wording of the IVA - but PPI as seen as an asset of the IVA, so you IP has duty to investigate. Your IVA is still active - so you have a duty in comply with requests, failure to do so may delay you IVA closure further. you may find even the creditors who missold the PPI will retain the PPI money to offset the debt. so you NOT likely to gain anything from the PPI

so basically your saying I have to let them claim my PPI even though my initial contract was for 5 years which I have completed over a year ago and only because GT have wasted time I have to do it?
As said - if you don't - you may find you closure of your IVA is delayed even further. The way to look at it is you a very unlikely to get anything from the PPI - so in order to bring the whole lot to a closure ASAP you either sign the form or advise GT you have instigated the PPI claims yourself
