Melanie, can you knit? My Mum used to have a wool shop, she knitted every day. Ooh, I don't think I want to know if it's a boy or girl, it'll be a nice surprise.

I am a very keen knitter Viki - and my idea of heaven after retirement from IP practice is to own a wool shop, where I can sit and knit all day and chat to customers.

I don't get a huge amount of time these days, but I love doing really complicated patterns with intarsia or pictures - as when they are finished you feel so proud of your efforts. I will definately send you one of my baby creations when the time is right!

Mrs S, we will sort something out once the little one is here.

Melanie I used to do lots of knitting, found the simple stuff boring so it was always things like aran sweaters or really complicated patterns that I did.

I haven't done any for years. Sometimes get a hankering for it, but it's quite expensive, and whether I would ever finish anything now I don't know.

Besides - I can multi task with the TV and the forum, but knitting would present a bit of a problem![:D][:D]

I love aran too, and you can get lots of cheap wool on e-bay Jan - definately worth a look. We will have to knit something for Viki's baby layette, so get those needles out and get cracking. Baby clothes do not take that long at all, and you can do:-

Knit a row
Purl a row
Post a post

and back again!!

Ah thanks Melanie, I'll look forward to that. My Mum loved her shop, it was in the centre of the village we used to live in and everyone used to drop in and my Mum would sit there knitting and chatting to everyone. She would make everyone a cup of tea too. Unfortunately people stopped knitting so she had to close.

Jan, You'll have to knit something now I know you can.

I use to knit and crochet a lot, I seriously considered taking it back up not so long ago, because the price of knitwear horrifies me! I just never seem to have the time though.

I use to make my girls aran cardigans in pretty pastel colours and when they were babies they had frilly frilly bonnets..they don't thank me for that though!

Never thought of that Melanie![:D][:D]

Never thought of looking on Ebay for wool either - I'll give that a go.

I shall have to find a pattern and get some needles and get cracking!

Knitting is getting very popular and tres chic again - there are a lot of famous actresses who knit on set - Cate Blanchett, Julia Roberts to name but two.

I was gutted when our local department store closed in Cardiff, but we have a John Lewis coming at the end of the year, and they have great wool selections. I tend to go to the one at Cribbs Causeway to look and feel (am very funny about the feel of wool and cannot handle anything scratchy) and then buy it on the internet for a third of the price.

I used to knit a lot of my baby clothes but as they grew bigger I didnt have the staying power, I have very limited attention span. Some of the things my Mom in law knits for my baby grandson are beautiful and really unique. I might do some myself, as I did really enjoy it.

We have a nice little wool shop in our nearest large(ish) town, so I will have to have a look in there.

As Viki is very petite - I have visions of her disappearing under a mountain of baby clothes![:D][:D]

I have a feeling it could be a boy. So I guess I have a 50% chance of getting it right.

What a fab scan picture - and so clear. I am guessing you are about 12 weeks now, and it is incredible how formed your little one already is. I bet grandpa is going to be so chuffed - will you pick a Greek name, or are you going for something cool and unusual?
