Don't know if this will / has affected anyone, we have sky multi room, but never connected to a telephone line. Only, because we would have to run an extension lead or get another telephone point in.

This has been the case since it was installed. Now we have received a letter stating if we do not connect the box to a telephone line, we will be charged at the same rate as the main box. Apparently, it's in the contract.

I will have to look at the small print.

Anyone experienced this?

My Sky box has gone wrong this week Julie but I've not got multi room. Hubby has rung them and they're aware of it but no luck yet on getting it fixed. x

Hi Julie,

Afraid is it in the contract. It's the only thing with puts me off. Well, that and the extra tenner a month!

We do have multi room - daughter pays the tenner for it!!!

We've always been connected to the phone line but have had problems in the past and we've had the letters from Sky and had to get on the phone and sort the connection problem out.

It is in the contract as DK says - you should be connected to the phone.

Don't use multi room, as we are the only watchers in the house. We have one of those magic eye things, so if we want to watch in bed (or when the little one is hogging the Wii) we just take the remote in with us and .... hey presto!

We have no TV in our bedroom at all - daughter has the multi room, it was a birthday present from us some years ago as we got fed up of her constantly flicking through the channels and watching rubbish all the time!!!!

We've got a TV in the bedroom but Dave has run a cable through from the main Sky box. We've also got Freesat on the TV so we can watch that if we want. Sky get enough money from us a month so they aren't getting an extra tenner!

Hubby done similar we can watch Sky in any room but it has to be the channel the person downstairs is watching. If, however, the person downstairs where the sky box is is watching a DVD or something via freeview the other person only has to come in and put their programme on a bit of a faff sometimes but works. x

Same thing, Lesley, but with the "eye" in line you can use the remote in the other room, so no need to go point it at the box.

Julie, Exactly what you describe happened to me last week. I have been getting a letter each month which I have ignored but the most recent letter threatened charges if I didn't get it sorted. My Sky box in the conservatory does not have a phone line as when the Sky man installed he was running out of time but left me a temporary extension lead. I phoned Sky and after a couple of calls got them to test with my extension lead and they were happy. It's only the first 12 months that you need a line to the box after that you can do what you want. Might be worth ringing them - if you can run an extension that might satisfy them . They only need to confirm that it is connected and not being used by a friend or neighbour. My contract runs till Jan so hopefully I will be OK till then.

You are right. What I meant was we can use the remote in the bedromm to change channels, without needing to go back to the box. We generally retreat to the bedroom to watch "real" TV when the youngster is playing games on the main TV, or watching a Fireman Sam video (again ... and again !!).

A second reset hasn't worked so when he's finished eating he's going to cancel it and just keep the broadband and phone if it's a good price and we'll looking at getting a HD recordable digi box or similar.

We're secretly hoping they'll say we'll send you another box!

There you go! £65.00 call out fee waived and if we need a new box or repair they'll do it for free when they come out and the man on the phone reassured us we would have a fully functioning unit with no cost when the engineer left. Had several options of when they could come out but due to work etc., it was best it was next Sunday but that part is our choice.
