I was aware you could start and stop it as when I removed it, I often wondered if I should have done. I do use a card reader a fair bit with NatWest
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I too have online banking with HSBC and Snatander - both want you to download Trusteer.

I did it previously, and it stuffed my computer up to the extent that I had to reinstall Windows. (My computer is only 15 Months old, and a reasonably good spec. So if it messes that up, it's likely to really slow-up/crash an older machine).

Personally, I have not brought anti-virus software for a few years. I run the free 'Microsoft Security Essentials' anti-virus/firewall program. Seems to work very well. No need for any more protection as far as I'm concerned at this point, providing you keep everything up to date.
Both my partner and I had always ignored our banks recommendation to install Rapport, as I too had seen reports of it`s incompatibility with some computer systems, we run AVG and it`s kept updated, as are all windows patches and updates.

Both my partner and I had used internet banking for years without any security issues at all...up until this instance.

My partner`s bank fraud dept closed down her internet banking and only reactivated it once Rapport was installed and, as I`ve posted, rapport found and removed the `Shylock` malware as soon as it was installed. We have had no issues with Rapport running on our machine, and it`s a relatively old laptop.

Shylock was prevalent previously and had apparently gone into `hibernation` as antivirus companies got wise to it and had some success in thwarting it, but it`s creators have seemingly had success with a new virulent strain and it`s making a comeback.

I just wanted to inform people of our experience and give warning for you all to be careful.

...maybe I'll give Trusteer another go then. The issue with it messing up peoples computers was well known, and maybe they have since revised it.
My opinions are just that: Based on my experience and being a self-employed IVA customer.
