You will need to check their entry criteria. I have an accountancy qualification - whilst they do not penalise members who enter into IVAs (to a certain extent), the presence of a 'compromise with your creditors' impacts on what is called yur 'fit and proper person test'. I'm not sure if you can joi...

Why not get him to stick it into a Trust. There should be a way to set it up such that the ownership would pass to you only in the event of his death (I can't remember if its a 'life interest' or 'interest in possession). There may be inheritance tax issues around this - you should try to obtain pro...

Hi country girl - we've been getting them too, which has culminated into a final demand/threat of court action. Payplan are on the case - at the end of the day, your IVA is your protection, a bit like Batfink's wings of steel. They haven't got a leg to stand on, and are choosing to ignore the law. J...

swardean - you might want to check with your IP/their representative as to whether anything was included within the court papers. My IVA agreement did not inlcude anything about additional income, but when I spoke to the case officer, they confirmed that it had been included in the court papers. Hop...

Whilst I agree that inaiva's advice is all well and good, it still doesn't change the fact that if a default is marked as satified, then it stays there for a further 6 years - effectively making a nonsense of the 'bad info only stays on your file for 6 years' statement. As an earlier poster pointed ...

Congratulations first up! Your husband will need to speak to his IP about changing his payments. Depending on when you met him, and whether you were co-habiting when the IVA was drawn up, your new situation will already have been reflected - could you provide more info? Mortgages...he'll need approv...

No-one can get mortgages at the moment, so I wouldn't suggest that was indicative.
Hopefully some-one can sort this out and clarify. IVAs must have concluded in the past and people returned to normal civilisation, so it might just be a lender back lash to the current economic climate

To be fair james, the consolation that some can be removed, when there is no real reason for them to be there in the first place is scant to say the least. As I suggested, there should be more comprehensive rules for the treatment of a credit file under an IVA, akin to the BR rules, if the credit re...

Kalf - some IPs will ask for a payment upfront, which can be refunded on non-acceptance, or will form part of the first payment on acceptance. If you are not comfortable paying upfront, there are plenty of companies who operate on a no upfront fees basis - www.iva.com has a comphrensive listing, but...

IVAKid - IVA and BR are not even remotely similar, and you should have been suggested the one most appropriate to your circumstances. I don't have the option of BR, as I would literally lose everything (house, car, job), but the IVA allowed me to keep all three. Unfortunately, it appears the price f...

Unfortunately the only way this will be cleared up (imo) will be if an employee of Equifax et al deigns to let us into the dark arts of credit scoring, or we start to get treated like normal people rather than dirt for having the temerity to adress our debt issues and try to pay back as much as we c...

These two illustrate my point exactly - wouldn't happen under bankruptcy, so why should it happen to those under an IVA. The lender should be banned from updating credit reference agencies, once the IVA has been recorded, and then on completion, never darken our door again. Why are they even bothere...

This looks to me like certain lenders trying to penalise people for renegeing on their credit commitments - we are getting default notices (but strangely only mentions of a default logged with the credit agencies) from the only creditor who did not agree with our IVAs. Our major creditor actually ha...

Not sure if its totally relevant, but when I was transferring all my debits to a new account, I read the fine print on all the agreements (for the first time) - the homecare agreement with British Gas suggested that they would credit check me to check I could pay. Maybe it is something that they do ...
