Hey, don't worry, I felt exactly the same as you a few weeks ago. I didn't know who to turn to and felt completely alone (and stupid!). It didn't help that I was getting little bits of advice from everywhere but nobody had sat down with me, and taken a look at the big picture. You will find that peo...

Hi Hitman, If I had gone down the IVA route, it may have been possible to keep my husband in the dark even though we have a joint mortage and equity in the house, as my payments would have covered my debt in full AND the IVA fees over a five year period. If you are in the same situation, then it may...

I'm in the process of arranging a DMP and I know that once you default, it's shown on your credit files - but what exactly is shown and for how long? If you were on a DMP, would a default notice appear against each creditor for the term of your DMP, then for six years after that? Or like an IVA is i...

I was just wondering if there have been any surveys which show how open creditors are to negotiation, rating how they compare to each other? I was just reading something on the website of UK Insolvency Helpline and saw that they rank creditors as "conflict", "semi-conflict" or "positive protocol" de...

I have opened a current account with Abbey. Unlike Natwest and Nationwide, it was simple and quick. And they've even given me a Visa Electron card so I can go into a shop and make purchases without carrying wads of cash! I'm so happy. After Nationwide refused me and this lunchtime I waited for 1h 40...

Hi Janey, I am really sorry to hear how you are feeling. I have been in a similar situation, hiding this from my husband, not knowing where to turn. However, having been on the forum for about a week, I am feeling much better about things. There's lots of support out there. I myself have turned to P...

The problem is I would like a new current account so I can have a debit card and use my card at shops or anywhere else - not keen on carrying wads of cash around with me. But I won't be applying for an overdraft or any other credit products, so I hope I can get one. I have already been turned down f...

Can anyone tell me why you are advised to open a new "basic" account then? Is it because if you open a new current account, you run the risk of them closing it down once the find out about your IVA or DMP?

I have just come from a meeting with Finebridge and out of all companies I have spoken to (there have been several), they have been the best. Brian, the manager, was completely unbiased, listened to all my concerns, put my mind at rest on many issues, and he was very understanding when I decided I w...
