I understand that after having explained to the creditor about the fact that my daughters do not contribute towards the household due to them being at University, the creditor reversed their decision and accepted the proposal [:)] It is under the condition that when they leave University and possibl...

Thank you Angie x It does mean a lot to be able to share how we are affected by this whole process, especially when it is not something you can share with family as it is a private matter. I know hubby feels he has let me down and I do try to be strong and positive for him but I think as I have sat ...

Thank you both - I am so close to tears now and just feel at my wits end.
The IVA is just for my husband and I have done everything I could to help the figures work, even consolidating my own debt when I didn't need to.

My husband's IVA proposal was rejected today by the Halifax and Tesco a.k.a. Royal Bank of Scotland. The reason given was something to do with the two non-dependants in the household but they didn't go beyond this in qualifying what was behind this reason. I believe the creditors are referring to my...

The date for my husband's creditors meeting has now been set (15th October). He continually receives calls from his creditors. He has received a call today and this particular creditor has asked how long will it take before they hear anything once the meeting has taken place? I would have thought fr...

Some of you will know that I recently had to consolidate my own debt to enable there to be sufficient surplus income to support my husband's IVA. For the record my own debt had been running just fine but obviously when you start to detail the income and expenditure the figures didn't stack up so I h...

Thanks both - that was helpful. I guess that by not writing the debt off until the end of the 5 year period is to allow for any windfall payments that may come in during the 5 years, which I can understand. Presumably, though if there are no windfall payments and you have maintained your IVA payment...

Hi My husband is presently going through the IVA process. Paperwork is due to be finalised in due course. Fingers crossed that creditors will see the proposal as fair and accept! What I would like to know is once everything has been accepted what actually happens to the debt? Does it still lie with ...

Thank you for all the positive comments and good wishes. One more hurdle down - several to go! Advice taken on board in terms of credit cards. Before I consolidated I really felt it would be easy for me to start to re-use etc. Even though, as I have previously mentioned, it is very early days I genu...

Some of you will be aware I was in a dilemma as to whether to consolidate my own debt or to follow advice and remortgage. The only reason I had to consider consolidating my own debt was to support my husband's IVA because without a reduced payment for my own commitments it was felt an IVA would not ...

My husband is at the very early stages of his IVA. Up until a couple of months ago he was managing to pay his creditors but it was a case of robbing Peter to Paul. However, now that he is well and truly behind with payments the phone calls and letters have started. We have found Barclaycard and Hali...

It has been interesting to read the comments between the three of you, which started from my original query of - remortgage -v- consolidation loan and IVA. In my circumstance the IVA will be in hubby's name only and as the property and mortgage is in my name there will be no fourth year equity claus...
