Michael,
My hubby may be getting a bonus In a couple of months?, do you think that we may be able to use this towards funding the trip?
An IVA is a long hard road but valuable lessons have been learnt along the way. Now looking forward to enjoying a debt free future!

Hi Christabelle, as a primary school teacher for over 34 years I can assure you that if you go to the school and speak to the Head, Admin or the class teacher about your financial situation they will help, especially as you have twins. You don't have to give them a load of detail just explain that you are experiencing financial hardship at the moment and finding the money for two children within 3 months is very difficult. In all the schools I've worked in we have always been sympathetic and especially with twins as it's always a double whammy!
Life after IVA is wonderful.

You will be able to keep some of the bonus ... It will be up to you to use this how you wish.

I have twin nieces and I know they recently went on a school trip ... My sister in law spoke to the school and it was agreed one trip price paid upfront with the second paid within three months of the trip afterwards
Sharing from experiences of dealing with debt

There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !

My personal experience of this was very positive. I contacted our firm and they arranged for us to miss a payment. That months payment went straight into my daughters parentpay account to cover her trip which was £160. You have to miss 3 payments to be in breach of your IVA... Maybe just call them up and ask the question, the worst they can say is no. My son also started high school in September, we put £20 in a tin every week if we could afford to from the October previous (after the open evenings around the schools) we managed to accumulate £340 however we still spent an additional £60. I feel your pain I honestly do.
I hope they are understanding sweet pea. Sometimes NO isn't the answer for memorable occasions.
**23'04'14 - IVA Complete F&F Agreed with payments made to date oh and a fat PPI reclaim helped too. Completion Certificate received 23'10'14 ** After a couple of years of waking up and 'surviving' the day I now wake up and 'Live' for the day!!
**Any comments I make are purely my own opinions**

Presumably you are entitled to retain 50% of your husband's bonus in any case, Christabelle? Would this fund the cost of the trip?

I know this won't make me popular on here, but I do struggle with IP's allowing people to miss contributions to fund items like this. Of course, anyone can take the risk to miss a payment or two, without the IVA failing, but these would have to be repaid throughout the course of the IVA, or by short extension at the end. I would not condone doing this however!

I agree Mel. When junior went on a school trip we used what savings we had plus early xmas and birthday gifts.

Hopefully the part of hubbys bonus will be enough to fund the trip and the kids have a great time!!

Christabelle,

The Stepchange Budget Guidelines do allow for expenditure for school trips: £6-£7pcm per child as I recall.

Properly review your expenditure allowances and make sure your IP has allowed for this.

Anything extra though, you will probably have to fund via savings from your other allowances.
My opinions are just that: Based on my experience and being a self-employed IVA customer.

Hopefully the bonus monies are enough to cover the trip but if not I see no reason why creditors would refuse a variation allowing the twins to go. I am not advocating missing payments without permission as I feel a variation could be acceptable.
