Has anyone tried to rent a house while in a IVA? i will be homesless soon from army living quarters, and need to think about renting a home. i have heard that you need guarantors, and need to pay 6 months up front. i can't do either of these!! i am so scared, what if no one will let me rent. i have 2 children to care for with schooling needs. i have tried for a council house but its practically imposible to get a home these days.

When i went to rent through a estate agent i was told i might have to get a Guarantor which was the cost of a extra credit check.

Nothing was mentioned about paying 6 months rent up front.

Some people do have to pay rent upfront - luluj had to have a six monthly rental in advance.

Try phoning local agents and private landlords anonymously and asking what their renting criteria is.

Contact your local council. Mine did a scheme where they acted as the guarantor would have paid the bond for me if needed. It is easier for them to help you into private property than to try and find you a council house.
