how will being in an IVA affect my ability to enter into a tenancy agreement? Am I blighted from using estate agents and limited to accessing private landlords who don't use credit reference checks???
You can rent whilst in an IVA and you can try estate agents although some people do say that private landlords are better. You may find that you have to put a good deposit down or get a guarantor.
Are you currently renting? If so then a letter from your current landlord confirming that you have paid on time can help.

Hi Dario - welcome to the forum. AS Jan says a higher deposit could be asked for. also some tenants have had to pay 6 months rent in advance. If you have a guarantor that would help and also be honest with the agent - let them know up front so it shows you are open - they are going to find out anyway so always best it comes from you.
Are you already in an IVA or just in the process of looking at one - if your creditors are not aware yet it will not be on your record.

thanks to you both. I'm at month 27 of my IVA but am applying for a new job which would probably need a move of home. Currently I rent privately in London, have been here 2 years and never had any problem paying the 925 a month rent to my landlady.
Your landlady should be able to provide you with a reference to say that you have paid on time which will be a big help.
Good luck with the job application and let us know how you get on.

Many of my clients have found new tenancy agreements with little bother - even when they have had to go through letting agents. The best thing to do is to be honest and up front with the agents, as an IVA strangely is a good demonstration of being able to keep up with a financial commitment which could stand you in good stead.
I have just rented and through an estate agent, I was open and honest and advised them of situation. They agreed to do checks knowing it would fail, ask them to do an in house evaluation for affordability, you should be fine.
