Some of you will know that i am struggling at the moment with work. Up to this month all utility bills were paid up to date but this month council tax has not been pid as yet.
Do you think they would let you miss a month and up the payments to cover it or pay it in Feb/March when we usually dont make a payment anyway?
hi loneranger
i'd give them a ring and explain that your having difficulties paying it depends on which council you deal with having moved around abit i found one council was very helpful and readjusted balance and carried payments into feb march , another council said pay the month owing and the next month then we'll look at your account and set up dd but they sent a bailiff after i missed 2 installments ( but i was in denialabout debts and whoever shouted loudest for money got ).my current one reajusted the dd ammount but have now been caught up for last 2 yrs

Contact them as soon as you can Steve - email if you can't phone. Our council are useless and if you miss a payment they withdraw the option of installments and whack a charge on straight away.
I hope your council are more understanding - Zoe works in council tax but I haven't noticed her posting for a while, maybe she'll see this post and be able to advise you.
The company i work for changed my pay day from mid month to end of month. (Why i have no idea).
Anyhow, i had to try and change all my direct debit dates to the 1st of the month so i had money in the bank before they tried to take it.
My councel said i couldn't move the set debit date back 2 weeks to the 1st as it is the next month, all they could do was bring it forward to the 1st. But this would mean i would be paying two months in one month so i asked if i could miss a month and tag it onto the end of the year and they said yes. result!
Ask them, you have nothing to loose.
regards,
Sue.

as the other posters have said speak to your local council and see what they can do. If you are genuine and do not scream and shout i can't see there being a problem!
You would not get a bailiff on the door unless you have had a magistrates court order, this can take a while to obtain as there are statutory timescales involved
hope this helps
I always ask to spread my instalments over 12months and they never have a problem. As long as it's all paid by the end of March I cannot see any council refusing a new arrangement to get it paid!
Talk on the phone rather than email as I sent an email once, had no reply for 4 weeks, made one phonecall and it was sorted!!
