Hi I am doing a lot of work in a prison and it has been suggested that I have keys of the prison to allow me to freely move around the prison. I know there is an extensive vetting process does anyone know if a persons finances are looked into.

Nothing you can buy feels as good as not being in debt.
My daughter works in a prison and has keys etc...I know she had to have an enhanced CRB check but I don't think a finance check was carried out. I'll try and find out for definite for you.
what has a credit check got to do do with being a key holder in a prison?
work in a bank or any position which deals with money yeah ok
cant for the life of me see this as a problem

The only thing I can think of is that the powers that be may think that someone could be vulnerable to bribery, the same view that police forces have.
Correct,a view that the armed forces also shared for many a year!!
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.
I would also think they will think integrity could be at risk due to bribery. Why don't you put an anonymous call through to HR and see what their stance is on IVA's and positions within the prison. If they refuse to take on new recruits with an IVA doesn't mean they necessarily don't look after people already working for them if you are open and honest with them. If your debts are under control and in a repayment plan they should look favourable to an existing employee they do in the police.
Good idea Dave. You can at least find out what their stance is.
Unfortunately people still think we are open to bribery - they don't realise that we are addressing our debts and would tell them where to get off!

Surely someone who is struggling with their debts is a much bigger risk than a person who is BR or in an IVA as they are listed on the insolvency register, and therefore the problem is no longer hidden?

Yes daughter was credit checked, however that was when she began her employment. They may not carry out checks on existing employees, so give the HR dept a call.
I'd have thought you'd be looking at a Security clearance checks for keys to a prison. These checks can only be conducted by a third party so your employer wouldn't find out specifics - it should just be a pass or fail.
I know the SC clearance asks all about finances (along with your inside leg measurements!) but the fact you may have a poor credit rating is totally irrelevant ... they just want to make sure you are open & honest with them. If the form asks about finances tell it exactly as it is and you should get through fine. Lie or hide something and then it will be rejected.
A CRB check does not check finances at all, just whether or not you have a criminal record. If they need a financial check, you will probably have to sign to say you agree to it. I had to when I moved to the place I work now.

I have full security clearance because of my location of work so they did finances, family, relationships they checked it all. It was a nice long form for me to fill in including finances lucky me
I think it all depends on where you work and what you do.
I don't remember being credit checked - then again, my credit rating was ok at the time.
I know they do it now.
