I was just wondering if anybody has heard of a pre-recorded message that plays after you answer the phone. The message basically says its about national awareness and that a new goverment inniative means that anyone with debts of over £5K can pay what they can realistically afford and that all interest is wiped off and excess credit that you can't afford is also wiped clean.........it then just says press 5 to see if you qualify, obviously i didn't press 5 on the phone to take it further. Had 3 calls in total now 2 came up as international out of area and the other private caller number witheld. Just wondered if anyone knows which company is behind this.

Hi,
I got one yesterday.
I listened for about 5 seconds then put the phone down.
I would imagine it is just a company trying to get business.

Does anyone know where these companys get your telephone number from?

I know they get address details from the insolvency register but surely if you are x directory they cannot obtain your phone number?

Bit worried about getting these calls as my mother will answer as I am not often at home as away with work a lot - in lovely Chester tonight[:D]

I have had a couple too of these - I also at the moment keep getting calls from companies offering me a new mortgage - they are really annoying and even though I keep telling them in uncertain terms that I am not interested, the next day I get another one.
Still rather them, than the old creditors!

How strange KLG2002 when you have not even sought help yet[:0]

Have you looked on www.iva.com for reviews of IP's as I found it a great help when deciding, I used Melanie Giles and have not a bad word to say about the service I have recieved.
I think the online wizards are good as a guidline but as ivas are individual and vary from person to person don't take the advice as gospel.
Get some help tailored to your circumstances[:)]

I have had a couple of these. I am ex-directory and no-one knows yet that I am going for an IVA so there should be no record and I am not on the insolvency list yet. I have only missed last months payments to creditors so either one of my creditors has passed my number on or it really is just at random, maybe from when I put my telephone number down on a form in the past etc. Hope this helps.

As Emma says, take the online wizards purely as giving a riugh idea on the action you should be taking.

Best advice is a detailed discussion between you and an advisor of all your options with access to a great deal of information supplied by you. It won't come out of a computer. There is a significant amount of spade-work and information-gathering to do. If after a 5 minute call you are told "congratulations you qualify for an IVA" then my recommendation is you should go elsewhere.

I have actually thought of approaching melanie to investigate whether an iva is a viable option for my personal circumstances, the only negative I can find with this is melanies location, as i think she is in wales and i am in manchester not sure how that would work? I am at the moment in the process of collecting the necessary paperwork form all my debts because I am very shred happy and apart from bank statements which i can download off the net I have no physical proof of anything. I do feel very apprehensive about an iva as i am wondering whether the current turmoil in the financial market would make creditors less agreeable to iva's on the whole. I do know that just with the decline in the property market I am at present in negative equity. Who ever said that money makes the world go round, its all so depressing.... I often talk to my two dogs and ask them if they want to swap places, I quite like the idea of being a dog thats well looked after (maybe in my next life) I know I am rambling sorry [V]

I think melanie has office in Birmingham too. I'm in liverpool so it won't be such a trek there. Maybe that'll be easier for you. X

KLG - I did the whole thing over the phone with Melanie as due to circumstances at the time I could not visit her.

I think Ian is based in Manchester if you want a local IP
