Hi All
I have around 6 payments and some arrears to complete my IVA I had a payment break holiday that was agreed with Grant Thornton to move house and buy sofas etc. We had to move as we were living with my dad but he turned realy nasty and was violent to me and my girlfriend so we had to move away from the area closer to her mum and dad as she was scared of him comng round. However this meant we had to move further away from work due to him making threats. We have a 19 month old daughter and she was our main concern and my partner gave up work to look after her. However my payments are due to start again and after the move and everything I still dont have enough money to manage my iva payments due to extra costs more fuel to get to work and bills etc. After a discussion with my partner she has managed to get 3 days of work back at her job but to do this I will need to fund her expenses for a month till payday and we are going to have to put our daughter into a nursery but to get her into the nursery I am going to have to find the money to secure her place and a £150 fee as well as the days my daughter will be in the nursery so cant meet the IVA payments that are due to start this month. After this month and once my partner starts to get paid again we have worked out we can manage the IVA payments and pay extra to clear the arrears over the months. Do you think this will be acceptable? I know I need to speak to Grant Thronton but just wanted to see if you think we are being fair to my creditors to maybe just ask for an extra month of missed payments? Any comments welcome thank you

Hi Adam,

I remember you posting previously about your situation. I'm so glad you have got yourselves sorted and safe!

What you are suggesting seems reasonable. Have a chat to your IP and get things arranged so you aren't left worrying.

x

Thanks for the replies we still wont have a lot left even with my girlfriend going back to work as we have to pay the Nursery and the arrears but if even though it is my IVA we just want to get it paid so we can start next year with the IVA completed. Grant Thronton have been so good to me helping me move after what happened I work around 90-100 hours of overtime every month and dont get to see a lot of daughter because of this but we accept the IVA is the best thing for us and just want to be fair to the creditors even though we have been through a bit of a rough ride I just need another month of help to enable us to get back on track.

Hi Adam, just a thought, but are you claiming Tax Credits? If you are paying childcare costs you maybe able to claim for these through Child Tax Credit, you may also be eligible to claim Working Tax Credit.
If you are renting you may also be eligible to claim housing benefit or Local Housing Allowance. You can check your entitlement to any of these benefits on the DWP website: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/diol1/doito ... /dg_172666
Hope this helps (if you're not already claiming what you are entitled to of course)

Hi Adam

Can I just say after reading your plight you are one hell of a Guy, I totally admire your courage, you make me feel inadequate in that I have moaned this week about things I am now disgusted in myself for moaning at, I guess its been really tough being you, I truly hope when your IVA is finished which will be very soon, you will have earned the first day of your new life for me you are poster of the month.

Hi.
Please do speak to Grant Thornton I am sure they will help you. They have been great with us after I lost my job last September. They gave us a payment break too but when it was due to restart I still hadn't secured a job. It looks unlikely that I will get one soon and our income will not allow any payments into our IVA. We only had 1 year left and I was so worried that the IVA would fail.
We have just had a variation meeting and thanks to the hard ork from Grant Thornton the creditors have accepted all our payments to date to conclude the IVA. So rest assured that Grant Thornton will do their best for you.

Adam, I do hope you get things sorted and hope that your new home brings you lots of happiness. You really deserve some luck after what you have been through. Make sure you take care of yourself as well, because without you the family will suffer. Best of luck x

Definitely look into the benefits - my daughter and son-in-law get working tax credits.

Glad everything is working out for you and hopefully GT will continue to be supportive.
