Niobe i have added you and yes it did the invalid thing but your there lol x but when i click on your name it doesn't give me an option anywhere to message you?? x sorry to be a pain x
Mel really is going to be busy with all of us embarking on this journey together if not already (i imagine she is manic all the time) due to her and her team being fab and treating us a human beings rather than numbers x
It is so reassuring to hear that others owe a lot too. We have debts similar to yours, and I don't know about you but I just feel so embarrassed. So many people assume that debts are because you are frittering away money on material possessions, but so often it seems it is simply because life has thrown you of course (in our case it was bereavement, illness, redundancy, and self-employment during the worst financial crisis in living memory) If there is one thing I have learned from being in debt - and from this forum in particular - is that you should never judge someone till you have walked a mile in their shoes. I wish you all well on our new journey.
We live in North Wales, interloking IVA, £63.000 of debt, nothing to show for it, shoking. In a DMP for 4 years, completly unrealistic monthly payment at the start, more debt after the DMP started and finaly I found this forum and Melanie. To have wasted 4 years in a DMP is my main regret and obviously to get in debt in the first place.Nobody knows about our debts, not even our son. He is an adult now and I just dont have the courage to tell him. However we do talk about money and advise him not to get in debt.
We all be going on this journey together with Melanie and her fantastic team, what a busy lady she is!
I wish you all well and im sure we all be debt free in 5/6 years.

I always think to myself you stupid stupid girl!! And yes there are circumstances behind it, its not a simple i went out and spent the money on myself or lived a luxury lifestyle at all but hey its done its in the past and now firmly looking to the future x I want to wish everyone the best of luck for acceptance in their Iva's and would like to wish everyone a massive merry christmas x If anyone on here would like to be my frugal friend please let me know and ill add you too x All the best everyone x
Just been reading back some of the comments on here seems i missed a couple x lovely to know that were all with Mel and all going through it together at roughly the same time x
Debt tired, ours too was self employment and, yes, you're right we couldn't have chosen a worse time to try and make a go of things.
Our sales went down and we found it harder and harder to make ends meet.I wish that we had done something sooner to sort out our finances but,of course we just used our cards to make ends meet.
I truly hope for all of us that there will be a better future.
Good luck to you all starting your IVA journeys, I am with Mel too and can categorically say no matter how busy she is or becomes you are in safe hands, I had a bit of an issue with a bill for car repairs last week and got myself in a state about it (as it was £200 more than I was expecting!) emailed Mel and received a reply reassuring me within minutes!, our debts were £57k when we started and we're only paying back around 17p in the £, we felt horrendous guilt at the outset but have got over that now and will just be glad when we get to the end successfully!
