I'm going to Portsmouth tomorrow! Dave gets his car serviced at the Chrysler garage just outside so we are going to have a wander round while it's being done. I hope the weather improves!

Skip

Go for it, you will enjoy it, you have to go to summer school for a week and meet lots of people all ages.

I started a degree in psychology but get pregnant and then did a Bsc (hons). There were people of all ages on my course a man aged 53 and a women aged 55. Good luck and dont put it off.

I'm not going to be put off - I'm determined about this. Luckily the summer school isn't compulsory as I wouldn't have enough holiday to do it - in fact the English course I'm interested in doesn't have one as part of the course.

It was such a lousy morning when we got to Portsmouth that Dave paid for us to go round the aquarium! The journey down was awful as there was an accident at the Devil's Punchbowl so it was quite nice to watch the nice relaxing fishies!

I have got to apologise Skippy!! The weather report I watched definitely said it was going to be dry today!!! Cant believe how damp and miserable it has been! Glad you got to see the fish instead!!

You will not regret doing the OU course. I have just completed two (only little ones) so am now looking at what to do next. I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed all the courses so far and havent done one yet that I regret doing. Its great that you do the studying when it suits you.

I always found that early evenings was a really good time for me. The kids used to sit down for half an hour quiet reading before bed so I used to get everything organised and refresh myself with what I had done the night before and then do about an hour/two after they had gone to bed. I actually find it really relaxing!! [:D]

No worries Kandh! I am looking forward to starting my course - I am going to register when we have moved (I've got until 14th December to register) so that I don't have to change address again. The layout of the new place is much better than where we are at the moment so I will be able to study better. I know that sounds silly but it's very cramped where we are at the moment and I find little things like that make a difference!

Good luck to everyone else who is studying on here - perhaps we can start an IVA.co.uk study support group?!?

Thats great.
I did consider the same but unfortunately it entails a more than 50% wage drop for the duration of training and then no definate job at the end so I decided to stay safe where I am. I feel a little also that the nurses are spending so much time with computers and bits of paperwork that I have at times more patient contact than them and prefer that.
I wish her all the best, it will be worth it.

It's the computer time that's holding her back, she says that hands on nursing has become more a job for the axillaries… Another option was to go ahead with the NVQ 3 but her department won’t put her in for it, and won’t let us pay for it, so the only option left is to go for the nurse training… She is going to make her final decision in December. I’ll let you know what happens.

same for me too mike, though they will pay for nvq 3, but then wont you for doing the extra work, so I decided to just stay as an auxillary.
