[/purple]Dear All [:D]

I have now completed my IVA after the full 60 months payments and would like to open a normal bank account. I presently have a basic account with Nationwide (no debit card or cheque book).

I would like to open a "normal" account but Nationwide have refused on several occasions to let me have a debit card account (I don't actually want a cheque book).

Any ideas who would be a good one to contact. I don't really want to revisit any of my old lenders as I can only see a problem arising (RBS, Bank of Scotland, Co-op, Abbey and Barclys).

I was thinking of HSBC but really don't want to risk a rejection.

Any advice?

Many thanks

Sharon [:I][/purple]

They are a possibility as I never had any dealings with them?

I'll be sorting out getting my credit report from experian soon and see how things pan out.

Will probably try Lloyds and HSBC... what do you think my chances are?

I would not bother with HSBC until the IVA and defaults drop off your credit file. Minimum 6 years from the creditors meeting date.

They really don't like anyone in a IVA or with defaults on their file
We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation.

Hi SBW
Congratulations on your completion. Re Bank Accounts I use Natwest and have both a Solo and a chequebook. takes about 20 mins to set up at your local branch.

A friend of mine has one of those pre paid debit card things, tops it up via the post office and bobs your mother's brother ! i might get one in time, but i take out my weekly allowance and put in a glass jar where i can see actual cash and not plastic. think twice about spending it then.

Thanks Ray.

I'll have a chat with the customer service people first and see what they say my chances are.

Many thanks for your advice

It really is.

I'm so worried about over spending now it's a nightmare.

It took over 5 years to sort this out, but after the long slog I finally got there.

If I can do it then anyone can!
