Well, Barclaycard are unrelentless in their chasing, they haven't called me on the house phone but the mobile is getting at least 4 calls per day. I ignore them.

I spoke to Nationwide FlexAccount tonight and they were very cool, they said they they are getting many responses like mine and were sorry they hadn't received my letter....they weren't pushy as Nationwide Credit Card weren't either although my 2 weeks is up with them and they have been calling today.

They asked me to update them as soon as I had any news.

Sainsbury's are on hubby's tail, he needs to speak to them

Just spoke to Nationwide credit card, they were cool too and knew who my IP was, following my letter or previous conversation and said they would hold the calls hopefully until the creditors meeting. Still a nightmare!

Nationwide do have some ethics IMO, time will tell, not like Barclaycard who have called me from India I'm sure, these guys have no idea.

Hi Guys,
Sorry I am a newbie and I would like to know what 'mercers' are? Sound quite scarey!!
I am in the process of p an IVA. I cancelled all my direct debits to creditors on Sat and already have had numerous calls. I do not answer the calls although my IP has told them to give the creditors their number and extension and to speak to them in future.
X

Hi Dodo Donna -welcome to the forum.

Mercers are a debt collecting company, who chase debts on behalf of creditors.

Ignore the calls if you can - if you do answer them, explain you're proposing an IVA and give them your IP's details. Unfortunately, this doeasn't always stop the calls - just keep strong and use the forum for support.

When the IVA is in place, the calls will subside and eventually stop.

Hey, I haven't come across Mercers as yet unless these are the people who are calling me from Barclaycard, I did try to have a conversation with them but they spoke a load of rubbish, apparently they are on commission. Don't let them bully you into making a payment if you can't. xxx

Mercers can be very pushy and threatening to the point of intimidating, they did scare me to begin with until I realised it wasn't just me they were threatening, the forum helped me through that period.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Mercers are one of the worst, all debt collector call centre staff work on commission, so will try anything to get you to pay money across.

Ignore them.

They belong to Barclays, and only deal with their debts.

Thanks all. Barclays are my largest creditor but having read these threads at least I will be prepared for when Mercers do contact me.
I came into this world with nothing and still have most of it left!

So are the people who call from these call centres in India and UK, Mercers, acting on behalf of Barclaycard? I'll have to ask that next time they call.

I have learned from the forum that our numbers are auto dialled....

I know now cos I get 4 rings on the house phone and then split second delay, the mobile goes, they don't ring long enough for you to finish what you are doing and answer.

Gordon Brown on the tv now, I'm not sure what I think!

Mercers act solely for Barclays. They are the debt collecting arm and are owned by them.

They do that - then they start again with a vengeance.

Happened to me quite a lot. A few days without calls, then a fresh assault.

I changed my home number and put the mobile on vibrate and did not answer one single call to creditors.....just could not face it to be honest I felt so embarrassed. My partner answered his phone to them all the time I just suppose it depends on the individual and me not communicating with them did not effect the outcome one bit as it was approved......gosh is so nice to add that little bit APPROVED I am still over the moon.....can you tell x
Gosh.....life is so much easier!

I had a letter from NR thanking me for my letter and that they would await further information from my IP, they haven't phoned me. Barclays are back on my case.

So pleased for you Pog with your outcome, sleep must be easier now. xxx
