I don't think they should have to have bought anything themselves!

I did have a lump in my throat when I saw the injured soldier Ben Parkinson carrying the torch.

Alot of the torchbearers were bought their torches by Coca-Cola but others had to pay for them themselves - I believe they were best part of £500 each and this didn't include a stand (that is another £40)....I agree these should have been given as part of the honour in carrying the torch.

That's a scandalous price!! They should not have had to pay for them.

Just like Foggy, i saw the topic and thought someone had been talking to Mrs Torch!.
Phew.

Personally, i have no axe to grind with people selling the torch, a friend of ours did a relay and is keeping hers.
I understand that any torches that were not purchased by the runner are being sold by Locog anyway.
The whole thing seems to be an exercise in corporate whoring in any case.

I completely agree with the last sentence OT!

The true spirit of the Olympics is well and truly dead - corporate greed, drugs cheats, over paid professional athletes taking part.

I hate to be a grouch, but I cant wait for it to be over!

London just isn't big enough and I'm fed up to the hind teeth of all the posters and radio ads telling us to get off the roads, tubes, buses and trains and sit in our houses and work from home so the city can be invaded by tourists and athletes there's no space for!!! I've been listening to that crap for months now...and my already congested journey to work has now had one lane of the road removed so it will be horrendous and I'll barely get out of 2nd gear on my 8-mile, 3-hour journey to work. Same on the way home and even longer when there are events at Wembley!

Londoners should be getting a sodding medal for putting up with it.

I took my grandchildren last week to my home town and was expecting much. I had a brilliant morning out town did me proud. I'm not into sport at all and wont' be watching the olympics but the pure community spirit for once made me proud to live here!
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Community spirit and time to be working together in the town .....

Just got back from a council meeting and it was still the topic of conversation today......all the schools have been involved in the theme of Olympics and those torchbearers chosen in the town are now visiting this week to give the kids the opportunity to hold the torch.......this is what I love ....great community spirit!

I'm normally all for community spirit but I just can't get excited about this. There is just too much inconvenience.

I'd love it if it was happening anywhere but London...I'm backing Manchester for the next Olympic bid :)

Community spirit is ok if the people are the sort I want to associate with!

I'll probably watch the Olympics but I'll be glad when it's all over - it's not even as though we're going to do that well!

I'll probably watch some of the Olympics on TV and we may even be given a few tickets as my OH is building something to do with the Legacy (ironically given how non-plussed I am by the whole thing).

I love the guymnastics, weightlifting and equestrian events so will try to catch those!!!!!

I've just come down with a chronic case of the NIMBYs!!!

I'm into the cycling, and I used to like the athletics until we started selecting junkies to compete for us!
