Oh I don't envy you Linda with the daughter moving in. Like you say you do what you can but it will be tiring for you. Will it be for long?

What line of work are you in?

Thanks Julie,
I am hoping it will not be to long, she will try to get social housing but we do have a three bedroom house so I fear it might take a while.
I work for a city council as a cashier, prior to that I spent 35 years in banking but took early retirement because I had had enough of the high pressure sales environment it had become. The council has decided to close the cashiers dept by the end of year so some people are going then. As you can imagine it is all pretty depressing at the moment. One woman keeps moaning though, she will be 60 by the time she goes has worked there for 25 years, house paid for, no kids and I keep thinking what have you to moan about she was only intending to carry on till she was 61.
What was your job?

As much as you love your daughter, don't make her too comfortable Linda.

You've got a lot of experience! Just make sure you sell yourself well and make sure your employer allows you time to job hunt!

I wonder when people like the lady you work with, keep saying they've got no mortgage etc..if its really true? Yes they may miss work but take up voluntary work then...thats my opinion[:)]

I'm ( was) a HR Manager but have done Office & Finance management too. I am qualified to assess NVQ's in business admin & customer service but to be honest I love HR especially employment law.

Hope you've been advised NOT to put your date of birth on CV?

We run employment, interview skills, job hunting all kinds of workshops at college, I did a 6 hour presentation on CV writing to pass my teaching exam....will be out of date now or you could have had the presentation. Certain jobs have different criteria for the giving of your date of birth but in general you don't have to that is still the rule as I often watch Heather who delivers the workshops now. Wonder if any of your local colleges do anything like this to assist? Ours is free with Response to Redundance funding and you only have to be under the threat of or recently been made redundant to qualify for the free training. Not in any way saying you need it but it may be helpful.

I went on my first Marketing Course the other day as some of you know I think it's the way my career is heading and I thoroughly enjoyed it and came away with some good points which I fedback at my staff meeting yesterday and they were received well. Got another marketing event on Tuesday and one on the 27th April, getting some names of people who I need to know etc.,! Get rid of this IVA and I think I'll be changing career paths as this morning I'm not looking forward to work I've only got a small group of 4 but seriously it's worse than a classroom full!
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Lesley its falls under discrimination now to ask for your age.

Some employers try to get around it by asking for your age group on a voluntary form, which also includes your religion, sexuality etc., but they cannot ask directly for your DOB or age as part of the application.

I'm glad you enjoyed the marketing courses..I've been involved in marketing for a community interest company and found it rewarding.

Good luck xx

I realise about the discrimination situation Julie but there are situations i.e for bar work where you have to be 18 to serve when it might be best to confirm you're over 18 if you don't want to give your birth date due to the nature of the job and care profession can be excluded from asking for a female carer for instance under the sex discrimination act.

I'm no expert and only assess her now and then for college purposes xx

You're right Lesley [:)] In the main though I discourage anyone from putting DOB on CV's...not that its hard to work out ages from education history etc..

I've had a few phonecalls today from contacts I made in work, asking for my CV so they can circulate for me. One guy told me he'd create a part time office job for me if I'm struggling, bless [:)]

I've also got 2 lunch dates to go to...my CEO wants to thank me for everything I've done and also the CEO before him wants to do the same. It'll be on seperate occasions as they don't see eye to eye [:D]...and I've got a farewell meal with my colleagues at the end of the month!

I don't think I have time to work [:D]

Yes
I have been told not to put dob on cv but they only have to look at your employment history to work it out.
Sorry I am incredible down at the moment would rather be out of it all.
Linda.
