I amazes me how everyone says 'oh if I get made redundant I will get a job at the local supermarket' well suprise people it doesn't happen. We said the same hubby was made redunadant Jan 2009, he went round all the supermarkets in our local area of Bristol and they were either letting there current staff do extra shifts or only taking people on for 6 hours a week or something simialar. He eventually got offered a job but unfortunatly had a heart attack a week before he was due to start. He is fine now and able to work but still cannot find work, again going round all the supermarkets etc. We have just had to accept that his working life is over and he basically retired at 60. So please people do not make the mistake of assuming there are plenty of shop jobs around, there aren't. Especially as people are cutting back on spending.
He did get an interview at Asda him and 97 other people going for 7 jobs!

I completely agree Pandy. Dave was made redundant some years ago and he applied to Tesco but they wouldn't even interview him - he was too experienced.

We're thinking what if hubby gets made redundant and if he does we can't stop it and think he may try to go self-employed, not sure it will work and will be a huge gamble but needs must etc.,
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Lesley, Dave went self employed when he was made redundant and it's the best thing he could have done. Things are tight at times but he's been so much happier.

Dave wishes he'd done it sooner. He lived off his redundancy for a year while he looked for a job but with hindsight he should have started working with some money in the bank.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
