Notice of Correction.
Hi All,I completed my IVA in April this year and have been waiting for my entry on the insolvency register to be removed, which after three months exactly it now has. However I notice on my credit files that a notice of correction has been placed without my knowledge on my credit files, stating that my IVA completed in July and was removed from the Insolvency register. Talking to equifax, they tell me that with this correction notice showing any applications for credit would not receive an automated decision as would anyone searching the public records, such as landlords, various utility companies. The correction notice would mean that they have to read this and therefore would be highlighted to all organsations which would show them that I have had problems in the past, which could and probably will affect my ability to rent a property in the future. Just thought that I should mention this to all.

Hi

Can you ask them to remove it ? otherwise you are sign posting creditors to the fact that you have had an IVA in the past

Hi, my husband has just received a copy of his credit file from Equifax and has encountered the same problem regarding a notice of correction dated in November last year that he knew nothing about. Now his IVA which ended last year is highlighted for all to see. He has just sent a query to Equifax online to try to resolve this and is waiting to hear back. My own IVA is not currently highlighted like this on my Equifax report and our records on the other 2 main agencies are all clear. I hope they can remove this because as Andy says it is sign posting creditors to the IVA. Over 6 years have passed and we really have a need to repair our credit records now. If he gets any useful feedback I will post it on here.

I would hope that this is a case of the CRA trying to be helpful in that last year between completion and the 6 year drop off .... in which case they should be happy to remove the entry right away.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

Hi Andy

Yes, we both sent copies of our completion certificates to the three agencies around 2 months ago. I obtained my details from Equifax on line on the free trial but my husband sent £2 and the certificate by post. There was a big delay with Equifax providing his report and he has only just heard back from them so I am wondering if they have overlooked this as well. We haven't had a response from them yet so I will suggest that he sends another message straight away and attaches a copy of the completion certificate incase it has gone astray. I do hope that might do the trick, thanks.

I have just received the reply below regarding the correction notice on my file....

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your message.

Upon entering into an IVA, Equifax will always place a notice of correction upon your report. Unfrotunately you will not be able to get this removed until your IVA has been removed.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to get back in touch.

does that mean that I will have to wait the 6 years for this notice to be removed?

Hi

Can you check this with Equifax ?
Does it mean when the IVA is due to come off your credit file ? e,g six years from the start ?

Personally I would not send anything to the CRAs, just let the six year rule tidy up your credit file

Hi Rich, I hope they resolve this for you. It should be 6 years from the start of the IVA (but not automatically - in our case anyway) Even after this period our IVA was still visible until our completion certificates were sent to them. The exception being my husband's Equifax credit record which has the notice of correction.

Ask them to mark the IVA as completed and remove the "Notice Of Correction"

Equifax is the only CRA to put this notice on for reasons known only to themselves. You have the right to have the notice removed and the IVA itself marked as completed.

Codswallop

Ask them to remove the Notice of Correction. The have the right to put a public record information on your file to show you are in a IVA, and MUST update this to show it as completed when they are informed of this.

They have a tendency to add a "Notice of Correction" but you have the right to have this removed. Put a complaint into Equifax, you don't want these notices hanging around longer than necessary as they will affect any application received as the searcher has to manually review the Notice Of Corrections before coming to a decision.

Hi Rich,

Not sure if you are still waiting for a response but here is an update regarding my husband's query as promised, the latest email from Equifax:

'Dear .......

Thank you for getting in touch.

Thank you for asking us to take the notice of correction off your Credit Report. We’ve now done this for you. We've released a new Credit Report for you to see this change. Please allow 7-10 working days for this to arrive ...'

No explanation as to why the notice of correction was still there though, as he had already sent his completion certificate. We are now waiting to see what they have put - in black and white. I will keep you posted as to the outcome - hopefully this is progress but keeping fingers crossed that it is what we want to see!
