cant beat asda-especially when they reduce the bakery stuff.
Yeah --- this is all true. I don't buy the food there (tried once and it's pretty tasteless stuff anyway) ... but they do "specials" on household goods, clothes, and car stuff which sometimes are worth braving the place. Never been in aldi or netto, but assume they are much the same.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

I don't think they look 'grubby', just not impressed with anything they sell in there, household or clothing wise.

I've never had a problem with what the stores sell, it's the fact that I don't recognise the brands that stops me shopping there!

It's Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda for me.

Not a problem with not recognising the brands, it's just that they don't tend to stock the stuff I want at the price I want!

I'm feeling the pinch too. From next month my transport costs to and from work will go up. I find it a struggle to budget for new clothes for work. I work in an office so have to look presentable, which is a joke as I rarely see clients! Our salary is up for review come April and I think we're unlikely to get a pay rise this year. I should be grateful as some people in are office are going to be made redundant. Everything is going up in price but salary is staying the same. Tough times! The one thing that is keeping me in top form about all this is that I will make my last IVA payment in November this year. I don't think anyone will have it easy this year but some mild consolation in that we're all in the same boat.
Last payment made on 1st Nov 2011. Happy to be debt free!

Asda, (10% discount), Tesco, Sainsburys, local high street bakers, butchers and pet shop, fresh fish delivery in bulk every three months,in that order.

Sainsburys is the nearest supermarket for me, but it's actually quicker to get to Tesco, which is why I go there.

We get fish from the fish van and meat from the butcher as well.

For the last 4 years I had to do my clothes shopping mainly in Primark, when my pals asked where do you buy your clothes, I would say a shop called Primalani....ha ha ha but muttered under my breath cheap cheap cheap. Apart from that I often waited for the sales to get more value for my money. As to food, I would buy my fruits and vegetables in the market, a few bits at Iceland, and other items from Sainsburys, but often purchased their brand names because sometimes they were cheaper and the buy one get one free offers were ok. The one pound shop is also good for getting cleaning supplies.

I hate the cheap clothes too. I can happily live on beans and baked potatoes or pasta and pesto but the clothes get to me. H&M is quite good though.

Use Poundland for a lot of stuff, vegetables we get from the local farm shop or Asda.

The only think I hate about Primark is the scrabble for the clothes!

I buy a mix of cheap clothes and some middle range clothes, I do like a nice pair of shoes though. I borrow some accessories from my daughter as she's fairly good at accessorising. my problem is I hate shopping, I got into debt with catalogue debt as it was so easy for me to shop from the comfort of my armchair, do miss that!
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Same here Lesley. I don't mind shopping if I can walk into a shop and get exactly what I want and the first one fits, but other than that I'm not interested!
