Not sure why im asking you guys, but probably as i know i will get a straight answer and theres such a varied background of people, and i respect most views on here!!

So today the boss was callin people one by one to the office, all the trainee managers, so my trainee under me went up, i was thinking i havent spent enough time with him over the last couple of weeks, and have i coached him enough etc etc... well his review went badly but i expected a little as he doesn't seem to want to put the effort in.

A couple of the guys then came to me after there reviews for advice, which was nice made me feel like i was seen as a senior manager when im still learning myself.

The boss handed me his phone as he left, and said your senior tonight have fun, nothing new there been doing this for a few weeks. After he left about an hour later i got a txt, have you thought of nights senior, i can get you a payrise and in position in 2 weeks, think about it and let me know tomorrow.

Its worth about £10k on top of what im on now, so thats a massive payrise, plus its monday to friday, pity it nights, just really unsure if thats the route i want to take, any thoughts??

Sounds like a good offer although permanent night can but a real dampener on a social life is that worth the extra 10K.
Personally I would go for it as I do not do going out etc, and the extra would be helpful, dont know if I would want to make a career out of nights though.

Will nights affect you a lot? The payrise sounds nice but weigh up is it worth it? will you be happy? Lot to think about I agree and not much time to think but worth considering. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

One question I would ask myself is ... How much of that £10k would I actually see being as I'm in an IVA?

This has to be a concern ... if you are happy with the way your IVA is going now then it might be better to wait another year and hope the opportunity comes up again.

Personally I would take it ---- admittedly you will only see about £7k after deductions and half of that you will have to give to your IVA, so you will be £3.5k better off (which you could squirrel away to make an early F&F offer later on). Nearly £300 a month isn't to be sniffed at.

Having worked nights I didn't like them, but I was always on a rotating shift, so never got settled into a routine. Permanent nights has got to be better. And, these days, the world runs 24/7, so you can still nip out in your break and do the shopping (not that you'd need to nip far !!!! )

I am not sure I would change especially if it was for the long term, especially since you only have 11 months to go with your IVA. Yes I can see the advantage for the next 12 months but after that you may be stuck on nights permanently, and how would you feel then?

£7k better off after tax [:D][:D]

Seriously though -- the biggie is how do you feel about working nights ( I am a miserable auld sod, so would love the life of a vampire !!!)

As someone who done nights for 2 years while studying - it can be a killer, i was constantly tired even on days off.
I slept ok during the day but it isnt the normal "night sleep"

"research shows you die earlier" :-)

Only you can decide - is there any chance of perhaps doing it for a few months and see how you go ?

Its a stepping stone to a deputy role, but saying that yes i know my IVA will swallow up the benefit for the next 11/10 months, but after that, blimey will be loaded!! my PTM had a brief word today telling me i would be daft to turn it down. In the current climate is the easiest senior position, and also one with no worries that the day managers get. She got the impression i wasn't interested, i did say i would be happy to move format, to the little expresses as a store mgr or the metro as a deputy, she agreed that she and the boss would support me with that, just not a major payrise just 3/4k lol!

Told my OH yesterday and she was livid, not a happy bunny, said would rather we were poor than me go on nights and its not about the money. Something ive learnt being in my IVA, its not about the money! i've got a 4 day weekend to think about.

First of all congratulations antm for being offered the role - always nice to be recognised [:)]

A tough decision for you as it will affect your home life, but if you take the role it will surely help your career going forward.

Personally, I would accept it just to show your seniors how ambitious and flexible you are. Another position will become availabilty and the experience you gain from this role will surely benefit you.

Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure it will be the right decision for you.

Good luck!

Well today i did it, turned down the senior nights role. Part of me is relieved, as i will stay on day shifts. My OH was dead set against it, nothing i could say would bring her round over the four days i had off work. So i had to give my boss the answer today. On the positive side he said he supported whatever decision i had made, but afterwards had heard on the grapevine that my jobs have been offered to other managers, one has been offered my bakery and another non-food, so not sure what happens next??!

I had a chat with my PTM she told me that the boss has already put the feelers out for any positions in another format for me, so express or metro formats to see if the have store mgr or deputy roles, and for the time being i go back to just bakery, she also said a few other words, about my true ambitions and that ive been daft but its done now. TBH i know its the right thing, my OH would kill me if i accepted behind her back, and its took me long enough to get her to move in with me!!

So pleased you've been able to make the decision antm, and just think only 10 months to go to being debt free as well.....

At least that's one decision out of the way -- and, to be honest, it wouldn't have been worth the grief, without the full support of your OH, as you would both have been affected by the change in lifestyle.

You are obviously well regarded at work and there will be other (maybe better) opportunities in the future.

I think its just odd, when i walk in and one manager asks for a handover for my bakery for when he takes over, and im stunned to think why??? i have a replacement in the bakery training to take over from me. Just have to take each day as it comes.

Ive heard alot on the grapevine and i know im probably one of the higher paid managers and the store has to trim some payroll, worse case for me is ive earnt a green review for this last year so next month they have to give me another 3% payrise. Ive heard our night senior is off elsewhere and another highly paid mgr is being shipped out, so my time isn't far off.
