Hi qpm and welcome to the forum.

Some companies can either supply a company credit card or will provide you with a "float" or "advance" if you are regularly incurring out of pocket expenses. Your employers don't need to know that you have credit problems. You shouldn't be expected to be out of pocket too much.

I am in the same situation and swear by my Cashplus card ... I have two, one for everday expenses and one for personal expenses.

Have you thought about a pre-paid credit card to cover this expenditure?

Yes I have this problem too and my boss wants me to get a credit card to cover company expenses and entertaining that I have to do and bills can be hundreds of pounds. I do have a debit card but I can't afford to pay it out of my account. They want me to get a company credit card but I keep trying to put them off but I'm going to have to tell them the truth unless my IP allows this but then it's going to be impossible to get credit I guess and the company card is all registered to me rather than the company

Why doesn't your boss get you a Visa or Mastercard related to his business.

After all why you should you finance his expenditure through your own personal funds!

If it is a company credit card, surely the company will be responsible for paying this back and you will just become a user. Do you need to be credit checked for a company card?

Melanie

From my experience for company credit cards are they not linked to the directors.

Basically each person who has the card facility is given a certain amoount they are used on the card. The result is that they do not need to have a credit check!

Interesting one though!

Usually the company will open a credit card account and have named employees on each card.

It does depend on the card issuer as to whether they do a credit check against both the company and the individual or just the company.

For example Barclaycard credit search just the company whereas Co-Op search both the company and the user.

Hi Storm
Can anybody and any company do a credit search on you without you giving permission ? Just thinking that many people opt for an IVA as opposed to bankruptcy purely because they do not want people to know their business. If you are working for a company and an unknown credit check[say for a card] throws up your IVA then it could an embarrassment and possibly affect any future promotion.

No - you can't search an applicant without consent but if you read through the T&C's they usually include a search consent.

Once an employee is presented with an application and is hesitant to both complete and sign the form this can cause embarrasment as well.

There is an issue faced by the lender - in that they are not allowed under the Data Protection Act to disclose to a third part (ie the employer) the reason for declining to issue a card to an individual.

Now this is an intriging topic, according to the conditions of my IVA, I'm not allowed to apply for credit! Does that include a "Prepaid" one?

Pre Paid is ok as there is not really any credit you put the money on before you spend it.
