Hi all, joined the forum a couple of days ago,but i have been reading for a few weeks. After a really bad month decided we have to hold our hands up and seriously do something about our situation.I've posted a few times and the replies are very positive and comforting.
Theres still a big part of me that thinks i'm going to wake up and we're okay. Then you come down to back down to earth with a bump and realise your'e not. It's weird but i can't wait till Sundays as you feel safe in your house and there's no postman coming.
Sorry just rambling on,waiting to hear if i can have a basic account with the Co-op before i take the plunge and phone some companies.
I know the stress is starting to affect me now as my skin flares up and my hair is falling out in handfuls(although this may be a good thing cos in the morning i look like the thing that comes out of the well in The Ring !!)LOL.
Sorry i feel guilty for joking but it's that or cry again and i've had enough of that for the mo.Anyway don't mean to depress anyone will sign off for now.Hope to speak with someone soon xx
CAN'T BUY ME LOVE !!

Hi

I Felt exactly the same as you 3 weeks ago, just kept thinking I could carry on robbing Peter to pay Paul. Its really stressful!, I have been spot free since I was a teenager and as soon as I realised I needed to sort this problem out my face ruptured with what seemed like teenage spots, not good when your in your early 30's!!!
I like you have started the process of setting up new bank accounts, Nationwide were great, did it all online and my new account details and card were with me within a week, had to decline their offer of an overdraft of course!!! Set up a new Joint bank account with Abbey the same day, was instantly accepted however due to their back log am still waiting for the Welcome Pack, (wouldnt recomment them!!)

I have contacted Melanie Giles (you can get info from this forum) Her Team have been great so Far with compiling the forms, am just waiting to hear from Melanie regarding how to progress forward.

Definitely get in touch with her team.

Take Care & Good Luck, you do start to feel slightly better when you feel things are starting to progress!

Hi
We all have felt so down at times and I remember well the feeling of relief on a sunday with no post. I always hated it when we went to my mums and on the way home I would dread all that post on the floor by the door.
You now know you have to do something about it and that is the most important thing. I buried my head for a long time and wish so much I hadnt. Our iva which is joint is for us the best thing we ever did. No more post in fact we moan now the postie doesnt like us anymore as we get very little. We have enough to manage a reasonable life, we have managed the odd hiccup. Yes it is strange to not fall back on credit but so uplifting to realise quite quickly you dont actually need it anymore.
Do your research for the best option for your situation and there will be a way and you will feel so much better.
Keep laughing, stay strong and you will get there, and you will feel better.

Ang xx

I am very new on here (in fact joined today - but the monies owed is not new..) and I share your anxiety and worries... you will find the strength and once you have you will feel relieved, you are NOT alone, it is not a sign of weakness it is just what it is... you have huge debts, you can not turn back time so take the chance to start again... Did you too use to love Sundays...?? No post.. praise the lord...

Here is a virtual hug from a fellow sufferer.. remember, even after weeks of rain, eventually the sun will come through..

Part of the process is recognising and accepting that you have problems. Once this has been identified, the relief of actually sharing your issues - often with virtual strangers - can be like having a millstone removed from round your neck. That is what makes this forum so special, as you all continue to support each other.

Louise - I have received your e-mail and will attempt to track you down this evening!

Hi Louise

Just wanted to say well done for admitting that you need to take steps to sort this out - I buried my head for a long long time before it got to the point that I couldn't any longer and felt life really wasn;t worth living, I made a phone call to DFD a few days later and now 12 months later we have a creditors meeting for an IVA tomorrow morning. Stick with it, listen to the experts - they really know their stuff and genuinely care and want to help you - remember you are not on your own - it took me months to realise that - I really wish I had known about this forum sooner I only joined a few days ago but the reassurance of knowing somebody is there who completely understands and is not just pretending too is so helpful - good luck

Hi,
You are definately not alone in how you feel, most of us on here are in serious debt and fully understand what you are going through. Once your head is out of the sand it is an emotional rollercoaster, but the worst bit is done, admitting you have a problem. You have done that and you are doing something about it. The next dificult bit is actually speaking to someone, and this was very difficult for me. I was a long time picking up and then putting down the phone again, before I managed to speak to someone. And what a relief when I finally did. I spoke to Tina on Melanie's team and felt at ease straight away, scared to death, ashamed and every other emotion know to man, but finally at ease. I wish I had done it sooner, and not carried on in the state I was in for as long as I did. Speak to Melanie direct, along with her team, she is lovely, helpful and will give you sound, honest help and advice. Everyone's situation is different, but there will be a solution for you and you will get through this. Everyone on here is here to give you help, advice and support whenever you need it. And don't feel guilty about joking, it's ok to laugh, you have nothing to feel guilty or ashamed of, hey I bet Northern Rock don't feel guilty and look how much money they owe. You will soon start to feel better, and looking forward to a debt free future. Good luck and keep posting.
All the best
Mike

Hello

Just wanted to let you know that we too felt like you a few weeks ago. We went through Melanies team and like mike.s, found them all to be very helpful and not atall judgemental. We received our proposal and sent this back last week. Today we have been notified of our Creditors meeting in 2 weeks time and suddenly I feel hopeful that there is an end to all the juggling and a new start ahead. I also feel very nervous about whether our IVA will be accepted but from everyones comments, the general opinion is that the proposal wouldnt be put forward if the IP didnt think that there was a chance of it being accepted. We have found melanies team so nice and I would recommend them to anyone taking the plunge.

Reading these posts is difficult for me as I wwas in the exact same position as all of you back in September 2007.
The hardest bit is admitting you have a problem and need help, I lost my second job very suddenly and this had been the only thing keeping me afloat financially.
I made a call to an advice line and they asked about my level of debt, I thought it was honestly about £21K, how wrong I was[:(] When I added everything up it was £46K [:0] and I felt all the feelings of shame, dispair and thought there would be no way out for me. I have never heard of iva's before and the thought of bankruptcy brought me out in a sweat!
Luckily for me, and all of you, is that I found this forum and realised the importance of getting the right help. Up until then I was just going along with everything the company I had contacted said as I didn,t know any better. From pouring over endless posts I became more educated about iva's and asked a few questions of my own on things I was unsure.
Going through the process is a like a wirlwind of emotions and is not easy by any means and at times I wondered if I could cope with all the stree and worry.

However I got through it with the help of a brilliant IP and her wonderful team and everyone on this forum.
My iva was approved in November and already my life is so much better, i know exactly where I am with things and have a debt free future in 60 months to look forward to.[:)]

Always remember that there is a solution to everyones debt problem and you are not alone - you only have to look at the huge number of posts on this forum. January has been the busiest month I have seen nd looking back over the old postbags looks the busiest ever, and sadly I think this trend will continue for a while yet asmore people realise they need help.

Look after yourselves and stay strong
best wishes to all
Emma x
Be positive & look after yourself, there are more important things in life than debts....

Best Wishes

Reading these posts I agree with everything

18 month before i went in to an IVA, i basically i had a really bad time, made my realise that some things in life are more important than money- and concentrate on the good things.

One thing i have learnt is that we are in the situation we are now its how we deal with it that counts, theirs no point looking at the past, regeting it, what we did in the past felt right at the time, but the past is the past, thing is dont let it take over your life

No matter how bad things are their is a million or more people in the world still far worse of than us - not just about money either

Just like everyone else, we dreaded the phone ringing, the postman coming and wishing we had heard about an IVA much sooner,

We are just about to make our 3rd payment into our IVA and are looking forward to our future.

Meline and her fantastic team helped us with our IVA and they are all very helpful and kind. the first few phone calls we had i cried all the way though.

Good luck the worst is now over you have realised you need to do something about your problem and you have started the process.

Just look at this outlook on life and what would you rather do.

1. Be in an IVA and make 60 regular payments based on your disposable income and become Debt Free if your debt is £15000+ and are in regular employment.

2. Go Bankrupt and become Debt Free but with
added stigmas such as loss of house and assets
and have your name in advertised in the Gazzette

3. Go into a Debt Management programme which is not Legally Binding and pay a reduced amount to your creditors and no guarantee that some of the interest will be frozen, therefore paying for YEARS!!

4. STAY AS YOU ARE AND TRY TO PAY OFF OVERWHELMING DEBT TO MAYBE 3-10 CREDITORSPLUS MAYBE YOUR MORTGAGE AND OTHER ESSENTIALS ON YOUR
MONTHLY INCOME WHICH EXCEEDS YOUR OUTGOINGS,
CAUSING NO QUALITY OF LIFE AND ALL SORTS OF FAMILY PROBLEMS AT HOME AND BURYING YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND!!!! ROBBING PETER TO PAY PAUL TO STAVE OFF ANY THREATENING LETTERS OR DEMANDS FOR YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS UNTIL YOU HAVE NO ALTERNATIVE BUT TO OPT FOR THE OPTIONS ABOVE!!.

These are what i think are the solutions to and outlook on Debt Today.

In the Eighties and Nineties it was cool to have credit cards in your wallet , the more you had the more better it made you feel ,you could have holidays abroad ,flash car and top girlfriend.
courtesy of the Bank advertising that you HAVE an
EXCELLENT!! Credit rating.

NOW!!! Society has WOKEN UP!! it is not cool to have credit cards and loans anymore you are now advertising that your in DEBT!!
when you see someone paying by Visa and Mastercard at the local supermarket they are adding to the Trillions of Pounds Debt Mountain.
They will soon end up like YOU!! they just haven't got their YET!!

Afternoon all, thanks for the above comments,i really look forward to logging on and reading the posts. We are definately going to try for an IVA.As i mentioned we are going to sort out our bank/direct debits etc then write out I/E on paper along with a letter to send to all our creditors explaining we are seeking help.I'm dreading tomorrow night as i have a Provident agent who i get on very well with, who calls monthly (paid monthly)and i'm unsure whether to try to pay something or tell them my intentions?keep putting off thinking about it!Then I intend to make those all important calls to IPs.I would like to try Melanie as she has excellent reviews and the posts i've recieved from her she seems very nice.I just know i'm going to end up feeling really embarrased and tongue tied but i realise it has to start somewhere.Would anybody know if we will have to travel to any meetings as we live near Portsmouth or can things be done via phone, post, e-mail ? sorry i was going to try to post with no questions!
speak soon, hope everyone who posts on here are having a good day xx
CAN'T BUY ME LOVE !!

i admire what you are doing Trees57 and if you go ahead with an IVA Application DON'T feel embarrased or ashamed as you are seeking HELP!!
and trying to put an END to your debt worries and i would thoroughly recommend Melanie and her team.
Anyway you have picked a good time to own up to it as you can't get credit anyway and there is a global credit crisis looming and things will be hard this year for people who are overstretched what with the cost of living ,interest rates, fuel prices etc.
If i was you i would go ahead with an IVA as it will be a SOLUTION to your problem.
DO NOT!!! believe that it is easy as it will take some time to set up but you have to stick with it such as changing bank account and Stopping Payments to Creditors and can be quite stressful at times.
As for being all Pals!!! with your FRIENDS PROVIDENT Agent, i think all they care about is there 999%APR that you are giving them plus a nice "cup of tea" as well.
You have faced up to it and now it is time to deal with it and for that you should be able to look in the mirror and be proud!!!

Good Luck!!!

Trees

So long as you are not self-employed you will not have to attend face to face meetings with your IP, as everything can be done via phone and e-mail.
