We are in our IVA and to try and make it easier to budget (coz we not brilliant at it) we (or rather I) thought about getting another account for our savings/housekeeping/misc money.

Has anyone had any problems opening up a joint basic account with either Halifax or Nationwide? Neither of them are linked to our creditors.

Hi there,

beofre I went bankrupt, I tried to open an account with the Halifax, and i can honestly say that it was the most difficult thing I have ever tried to do. 8 weeks later, I still have not received my card.

I walked into the Natwest, everything ran as smooth as clockwork, no problems.

In my opinion, Halifax werent interested and should be avoided.

i opened an EasyCash account with the Halifax in the summer after being in my IVA for a year and a half.

i had no problems and it went straight through although as i was moving across from the Nationwide Flex and the Easycash account is classed as a basic account they don't automatically switch all your direct debits and salary across (like they do for the normal current account) i had to do them myself. still wasnt too much hassle as they supplied all the forms for it

main reason i switched from the Nationwide to the Halifax Easycash was the Easycash comes with a Visa Electron card where the Nationwide Flex just had a cash card. so now i can monitor all my transactons online through one account which i find really useful and also have a card to use in shops and online

so i would recommend the Halifax if you would find the Electron card useful

Mike

Cheers for that. I did try Natwest yesterday but they were interested as I did not already have an account with them!!!

Thought I might pop down in my lunch hour and see what I can get!

I have a Halifax Easycash account, it's great, I have a Visa Electron card and I do all my banking on the Internet, the Halifax web site is so easy to access and you can set up all your direct debits and standing orders on line, I didn't have any problem setting up the account it only took 7 days.
IVA COMPLETED ON THE 17th MARCH, FINAL I&E COMPLETED 26th APRIL, COMPLETION CERTIFICATE ARRIVED 2nd AUGUST
