My boiler packed up supplying me hot water before Xmas, but I've managed with boiling endless kettles etc., got an electric shower for bathing! Today we finally think we've got a coupld of hundred in contingency so will get plumber in! quote £500! it never rains does it? Another 2-3 months before I can find that kind of money and only then if nothing else goes wrong in the meantime! Some days are meant to try us aren't they?
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Can you not ask family for help? Or ask for a payment break for one month?

I was just talking to my husband Lulu on the phone and as nobody knows about our IVA it is very difficult to admit you have no money isn't it? Might ask my son for an advance on his board and lodgings explaining a cashflow problem was one idea I just suggested to hubby, he pays me £50 per week so if he could give me some up front and then we live without his money until it's repaid to him. He's a very careful lad (unlike his mum!)so I know he's got it. Don't want to ask for a payment break unless it really is the last straw, We do have heating so at least we're not cold and we aren't doing further harm to the boiler running it as we are as I asked that question. I'm going to work shortly but may have a word with son tonight unless I come up with something else as having a bath would be luxurious!

Hi
Hot water is essential.I would ask your IP for a payment break to get the boiler fixed,You can tag the missed payment on the end of your IVA or increase the payments by £15 per month, for example,to catch up.

Hi there
The same thing happened to us before Xmas. The boiler was a Potterton one. I searched on the internet and found that our model had been investigated by watchdog!!! and was a common problem. They orignally quoted £200 to fix, but when i mentioned the watchdog thing they did for free! Just a thought - try googleing your boiler name - you never know you may be lucky!!!

Thanks Andy and Zoe, I've talked to my son this evening who is more than willing to help with the payment of the plumbers bill bless him, told him we had got rid of all our credit cards and overdraft and were just getting used to life without credit, he asked no questions! luckily!

I've only just entered my IVA only paid one payment, 2nd payment due on the 28th of this month. I know these things can't be timed but if they could would have been better coming when I had accumulated a little more in the contingency fund. We've managed without the hot water as we've got a dishwasher and an electric shower, without these two things there is no way we could have managed for so long but now we've had the quotes in we may as well have the work done. I'll just google the name of the boiler anyway Zoe just in case....
