They sure do - here we have one place and that is it - the nearest other supermarkets are 50 miles return trip, 90 miles return trip or about 80 miles return trip petrol costs will be more than the savings on food - if any! J

To Stirling

Can I suggest that you remind the CCCS that under thier own guidelines you are allowed a maximum of £471 for housekeeping for a family of two adults and two children.

We are seeing quite a few posts suggesting that CCCS are squeezing people's expenditure allowances to the limit, without taking heed of what is actually spent.

Jan that is terribly low! Is that what you actually spend, or what Payplan told you you were allowed. I am getting increasingly concerned about the level of expenditure being reported as "allowable" from the "charity" and "free" sectors.

Melanie, David is finding this all the time with his Samaritan work - the Citizens Advice people send clients to CCCS and they tend to make matters worse and so the clients turn to the Samaritans. One client of David's was told by the CCCS to have his two Yorkshire Terriers put down! J

I lied - it's £290! Just checked the proposal again. That's for food, toiletries and cleaning.

I think that's what we put down but not sure now.

We have always kept the cupboards and the freezer pretty well stocked up and we usually replace things as we use them.

Our normal bill from Asda is around the £50 mark and we buy meat from the butcher.

We seem to manage ok.

I can't complain really though as with my payrise and hubby's pension rise, they didn't take any of that off us.

I have long held the suspicion that he who pays the piper calls the tune, which reinforces the view that the commercial sector do have distinct advantages for people over the so called free sector.

I think that about DMP's as well. Our DMP was with a fee paying company and went well for the 18 months we were in it.

People who use 'free' companies do seem to have more trouble.

You are rightSize5 - the horror stories told to my husband would, I think, shock even you in your profession. Can people like Melanie and yourself bring any pressure to bear on the freebies? J

Not personally I'm afraid, far too small a fish in this particular pond, although I am aware that people like Melanie and David Mond do work very, very hard to make sure that their clients get the most help that is possible, sometimes by challenging unrealistically low allowances for example.

And of course the firms such as Payplan and CCCS are very much governed by the creditors if they are paying the fees.
