Not sure I'm allowed to post this link but thought I'd try to give people the chance to make their mobile number ex-directory, I've just done it for mine. I know some people get calls from creditors etc., on their landline and they don't have their mobile number but this site would mean they could get access to it.

If I've broken T&C's of site - apologies in advance x

It's fine to post that Lasley - it gives others a chance to make their numbers ex directory.

It's only advertising links which can't be posted.

Thanks Jan, I really must read through the T&C's of posting links etc., as I easily forget and then worry but I'll be advising hubby and children to do the same. x

Thanks for that Lesley. I've already done mine - it's bad enough getting cold calls on my ex directory home number, I certainly don't want them on my mobile as well!

I did mine online with no problem unless it's probably that everyone is trying to do same.

This is their site; http://www.118800.co.uk/ just click on ex-directory and follow instructions to get your mobile taken off - just done ours, and by looking at various forums a great many people will do likewise, maybe even a big % of the 15 million they say they have!. Of course by going ex-directory, we're giving them our number, but...

I've received a few emails about this. Seems to be scaremongering to me.

It says in the very BBC article you mention that it will cost £1 a time for anyone to use the service. That would be a pretty expensive way to run a cold-calling telemarketing operation.

It also says your mobile number will never be given out to the person making the request. In fact, I read elsewhere that not even the call center staff who work for 118800 will see anyone's mobile number.

Another thing is anyone using the service needs to know your name and location before they get put through to you, and even then you get the option of accepting the call or not after you hear the name of the person calling you.

Lastly, one of the press releases they've put out states "Only people we can verify as over the age of 18 are included within the 118 800 directory."

Just some extra info for those panicking about this.
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

I wasn't panicking, just did it to be on the safe side.

The only 'nuisance' calls I get are ones from mobile phone companies wanting me to change over to them.

Funnily enough, they happened all the time when I had about 5 months to go on it, now it's nearly up (1 month) they don't bother!

I wasn't panicking, I just don't want people being able to get hold of my mobile number if I don't want them to have it. That's also the reason I'm ex directory at home, although it never stopped calls when we were with BT!

Don't want to worry you folks. But I've just received an email from work advising me not to put my details on this 118 800 website as they have not yet verified if my details would be safe or whether it will cost me.

They are looking into it.

Will let you know if I hear anymore.
