Hi,

I too have been having dealings with Mercers. I have never spoken to them on the phone and have ignored all the ansaphone messages. I changed my mobile number and changed my isp to BT and got broadband talk which gives me a new number. I still check on the old one and they are still trying even though my meeting is next week. I have had a few nasty letters, but I have written nasty ones back (probably not a good idea but I felt better at the time). I have been threatened with doorstep collections and I have told them that I will not speak to them, and certainly won't be paying any money to them. I am still waiting for someone to turn up. I refuse to let them get me down. They are by far the worst people I have dealt with.

Barb, you are doing the right thing by just being polite as if you were to lose it on the phone you would be all shaky afterwards and you don't need that, at least you can hold your head up high as you have 99% sorted everything out. Hold on, not long yet. Thinking of you, (I've got all this to come...Barclaycard are one of mine)

thanks vicki - you will be fine - they just try to intimidate you but to be honest i think it is mainly idle threats to just get some sort of payment out of you

wishing you lots of luck - keep posting so we can support you

Got home from work today to find another letter from Mercers. I thought it would be one of their usual nasty 'cough up or else', but was pleasantly surprised to receive an acknowledgement of the letter informing them of our (hopefully) forthcomin creditors meeting. Wasn't expecting one of those! Only problem is, that after initially referring to an 'arrangement/bankruptcy', they then just refer to the latter and are asking that I send them a copy of the bankruptcy order! Do they know somethink I don't?

Kallis

I wouldn't worry too much but just inform your IP, I never recieved any letters from them just the phone calls.

Your IP will be able to advise you, send or fax them a copy or phone.

Best to put your mind at rest[:)]

Hi Emma,

I think I will call them tomorrow. I think the only reason I got letters was because I never answered the phone and it was the only way they could threaten me!

They are bullies but don't let them get to you, they had me in floods of tears during one call and it was after that that I refused to communicate via the phone with them and told them to write letters if they wanted any response from me....

Barclaycard had sold on my debt even before the creditors meeting and have now even removed their default notice from my credit file. Mercers are on a commission. You'll be protected by an IVA soon, what can they do. Just tell them you don't want to talk and hang up. Remember an IVA is just a business proposal, this is not aimed at you as a person your just a number on a rotating cycle. If you think it'll make you feel better be as rude as you can back. It's great therapy.
Don't feel guilty,life changes,it happens.
If you were trying to barter down the cost of something in a shop you wouldn't feel guilty, an IVA s much the same.
Good luck enjoy the season changing.

Just ignore the calls, I presume you have a phone that can screen calls? Just look at the phone as I did, ignore it and they will ring off. Alternatively you could just pick the phone up and tell them you are in an IVA and hang up.

I would send on the letter to your IP.

Mercers want shooting!

Well Mercers have exceeded themselves!

Last week I had a letter from them acknowledging the fact that we were seeking an IVA. This I just put to one side as my meeting in on Monday.

Today I have received a really threatening letter, and I quote:

Dear Mrs Lee,

Despite all of our previous communications you have ignored our demands for payment to your long overdue account

We will now pass your account to a debt collections firm in your area and a local representative may call at your address:

PHONE 08448225225 NOW!

You only have 48 hours to stop further action.

The letter is dated 16th April and it is now the 19th, so my 48 hours has passed but I very much doubt if I will find someone on my doorstep anytime soon demanding money.

I wouldn't mind, but I only fell into arrears in the middle of December, and up until this month (when I was advised not to pay anything by my IP) I have been making some payments to Barclaycard.

Fortunately for me, I am not easily intimidated by these letters, and this one is no exception.

Anyone out there who has received similar letters, it' just scare tactics. Don't let it get to you.

I had loads of agro with mercers right up to the creditors meeting date. They threatened door step collectors the lot, didn't listen to a word I said to them. I just switched off when they phoned let them go through their speach, and ended by saying no i'm not making a payment. They didn't vote at my creditors meeting.

They just prey on people who are in a vulnerable position. How their operators sleep at night after they have upset people on the phone I don't know. They must be totally oblivious. I hope none of them get in the position we are all in (on second thoughts, I hope they do and that they suffer!) They know that a lot of people will be upset and intimidated by them and will cough up money they can ill afford. Pity nothing can be done about them
