Hi,
In the process of sorting out an IVA with Clearstart. First of all are they a reputable company? The reason I ask is that Mercers won't accept a token payment of £1 per month for Barclaycard debt. Now, they have put doubt in my mind that Clearstart are not a fair company and they suggest I should seek advice from CAB before signing up to anything.
Has anyone had any experience with Mercers or Clearstart?
They are aware that I am sorting out an IVA but just say that my situation has not changed and I am 7 months in arrears even though I have been paying £1 a month anyway.
It hasn't been sold on yet and they keep threating to do so with letters or phonecalls but haven't yet. And then keep saying about local debt collector calling at the door.
I think they are just being unreasonable.
So, I was just wondering if I am doing the right thing in choosing Clearstart for the IVA?
Debt is approx £60k.

Hi spacehop69
Having no experience of clearstart or mercers I can't comment on them but if you are already having doubts I would certainly try a few other companies before you commit yourself. Maybe contact one of those that regularly offer advice on this forum - I can personally recommend Melanie Giles. Best of luck and keep posting to let us know how you get on

My husband and I had a lot of harassement from Mercers before and after IVA accepted. They were still threatening to send debt collectors round nearly 3 weeks after IVA was accepted! I paid token payemnts for a while but then gave up as it seemed to make no difference to the level of calls/letters I received, and it makes no difference what you say to them, until they see the IVA agreed in black and white they won't let up. I ended up faxing my copy of IVA agreement and IVA company had to call them as they were putting husbands job at risk by phoning him at work, and this was nearly 3 weeks after acceptance!

Yes, Clear Start is a great company for IVA.

If you are paying token/dmp payments, you may want to pay upto half of what you use to pay them per month, whilst the iVA is been sorted. If you can?

I did that exactly, and I have Barc' card as a lender. You creditors are still paid(no more calls) and if your iVA fail, then you can rely on that monthly payment to continue and hopefully accepted with interest frozen....
