Our M and S still give to the homeless shelter,so even those without a roof over their heads eat better than we do!!!
I remember when we were kids our mam used to send us to the cake shop just before they closed at 5-I would ask if they had any *second hand cakes* left and we would get a bagful for next to nothing!!!
Mam was also a dinner lady at our school and she had 3 of us there, if she was short of money we would go back for seconds and thirds, filled us up for the rest of the day!!!!
Dad left when we were little, and the csa never existed then, Mam had 4 jobs but we never felt hungry(all them school dinners).
Weekends were often spent on oxo *soup* and toast dipped in!!!!

Kids-dont know theyre born these days!!!!!

One of my nicest memories is being treated to a plate of mashed potato and tomato ketchup coz I'd been good. Only years later was I told my Mum only had potatoes and no money.
I had no idea we were poor when I was growing up - I had a fab childhood. Now it's all computer games and designer clothes so it's no wonder people are up to their eyes in debt.

We used to pop into the bakers first thing in the morning and he'd save up yesterdays left over cakes for us ...... 6d (2 and a half pence for you youngsters) -- which just happened to be our bus fare to school -- bought a mahoosive bag of cakes. We needed to walk to school then, firstly to give us time to scoff and secondly to walk the cakes off !!!!
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

I hate tomato ketchup, brown sauce I love though!

I was lucky as I was an only child and did have more than a lot of other kids.

Mum used to make most of my clothes though when I was little.

When I was a child my mother was also a school dinner lady, and used to bring home the leftovers for tea. We always got upset because we couldn't have shop bought biscuits and cake, only home made!!

Home made is always sooo much better than shop bought! My mum was a brilliant cake and pudding maker!

Oh Jan, beef dripping on toast (especially the brown jelly), proper comfort food, one of the chip shops by us use to cook in dripping - wouldn't get past the health police these day's.
