Update on my application for a co-op cashminder account. went to my local branch on Monday and after convincing the assistant manager that an IVA was different to bankruptcy, and she actually had to go away and ask someone!! i have been given an appointment for 2pm today, as my branch works on an appointment system as its a small branch, hopefully i will get sorted before Lloyds pull the plug on me.

Hope it goes well for you Chris. A basic account always used to be easy to open with the co-op. Things have changed a lot recently by the sound of it.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Has anyone got recent experience with Barclays, as by all accounts (no pun intended) they used to be quite IVA friendly??

Nat West and HSBC are creditors, so if Lloyds pull the plug on my Halifax account, and the Co Op are messing about, my choices are becoming limited with regards to "main" banks.
Final payment 1st April 2016.
Completion Certificate received 19th May 2016.

Skeef143 - as mentioned on here - and depending where you live - an increasing number of credit Unions are offering accounts - so it may be worth looking into that - just type credit Unions (ie London)into Google it should come up with a whole list

Hi Chris - good luck this afternoon, I think you just got unlucky with the person you spoke too, they obviously had no clue on it at all! I've got my application pack as no branch here & have to take all our IDs & proofs of address & pay a fee to have them signed by the PO & send them off. Now have to wait till next week to sort it as hubby's not off till then. We are opening a joint one, I did phone co op up & they were very helpful & said to send as much ID proof as we could.

Let me know how u get on.

Just got Back from the co-op and i have been accepted for a cashminder account, should have my account number and sort code within 48 hours, card and pin to follow.

I feel a great load has been lifted from my mind!! I have been really worried about situation with lloyds even though i havent heard anything about them closing my account but id rather be able to sleep properly at night than panic once they start sending letters out closing accounts.

I must say the lady at the Co-op was surperb, it was the first time i have had to tell a total stranger that i am in an IVA and no judgement was passed towards me. Absolutly first class customer service. Cant recommend them highly enough to anyone.

Excellent news Chris! Puts my mind at rest applying by post, I was a tad worried.

I'm quite happy jumping ship, changing my DDs n hubby's pay to my Yorkshire account has been easier than I thought. I think I will feel more comfortable when we have everything over in our Co op account, knowing they are more acceptable of the "likes" of us.

I've not heard anything from lloyds, but my friend whom I pay my mobile phone contract with as she kindly added me to her contract for a phone, mentioned that on her banking statement it stated there could be potential problems from Lloyds payees. No idea if its related at all.

Well done Chris.

Natwest has a problem with Lloyds payment at the moment. I had to check a box to say I'd read it on the Natwest website a few days ago. Maybe it's that?

I'm thinking its more to do with banking problems rather than lloyds clamping down on its clients. I think it just a coincidence in what came up on my friends statement, but it's not on my lloyds account so not sure.

Can I just add that my decision to jump ship is my own personal view on the situation, I'm a worrier & always like a back up plan. This is why I opened my Yorkshire bank account as it was a back up plan in our IVA. This has proved a excellent move for us during the IVA, one account for bills the other for household expenditure.

I haven`t made it to the coop yet. Still think even if i was lucky enough not to have my account closed, would I want to use a bank with this attitude when alternatives are available.

Hi Louise

I also feel the same, should they not close my account but do so or refuse further IVA applicants. But it's not our battle to fight for everyone, you need to do what's right for you.

I am post IVA and may switch, the attitude of a bank to those in difficulty says a lot about it. Not sure I want to be with Lloyds if they are so socially irresponsible. May consider smile.

I was told when I started my IVA in 2008, to Switch my bank to one of which I dont owe any money too. I tried Lloyd & Abbey national. As soon as I mentioned the words IVA, both Banks attitude towards me changed instantly, and I was virtually out of bank a few mins later. They did not want to know and seem to talk like I was beneath them. I went to Yorkshire Bank and they was the total opposite, very friendly bank and happy to have me as a customer. Lloyds attitude discusted me then and it discusts me even more after reading this. They have always disliked customers on IVA's from my experience.
IVA complete March 2014 after 6 years.
