I am trying to get liability insurance and on the form it says Have you or any one engaged in the business ever been declared bankrupt or insolvent or become the subject of any bankruptcy or insolvency proceedings? If your in an iva are you classed has this?
If so.does anyone know where I can get insurance who will actually accept me. Many thanks
Thank you it seems ridiculous that it is so hard for someone on a iva to get insurance. All I want to do is set a business up and I am definitely not planning on getting into anything like this again. Just wish I hadn't now has ot is stopping me from having a career I enjoy
I know it will be years till I am out of it. I didn't think it would be a problem. I mean I would have thought we would be the least people to get our selfs into trouble again etc. It just seems my training etc is going to be a waste of time and money really
Hi, I have just seen your post re insurance as I have just tried to purchase public liability insurance for my part time nails business (which is more of a hobby as I only really break even doing this and love doing it) however Professional Beauty Direct have declined on the basis that I am in an IVA - I did ask why as I wasnt asking for credit etc (its £47.50 for a year which is paid upfront) I think its particularly unfair as if this was my main job and income source it would in effect stop me carrying on if insurers wont let you have insurance - just seems crazy! I am now wondering if it is likely I will get refused by other providers AND now that I have had insurance refused do I also have to say "yes" when that question is asked as well as "have you ever been declared bankrupt/insolvent....".
Also, now concerned do I have to tell my car and home insurance I have had insurance refused and/or do I have to volunteer to them that I am in an IVA even if the question is not raised - I'm not sure what I am supposed to do re insurance now-what is correct and what is courtesy, I pay my car insurance upfront so I would hope this wouldnt impact on my renewal as I plan to stay with the same company again this year (who I have never volunteered the information about my IVA to - I have just accepted renewal without reading it really) my home insurance I pay monthly though and would like to continue doing so. I understand not obtaining un-necessary credit etc but whilst in a IVA that allows for insurance etc to be paid monthly it seems unfair that insurers wont provide?
now to look for another insurer for Nail Techs in IVA's - did you have any joy Kath1980??
I haven't personally, I have only tried Professional Beauty and currently making enquiries of BABTAC (for beauty professionals) as thought best to try them first. Just seems so silly - I am no more of a risk in an IVA for public liability insurance than someone not in an IVA where payment is upfront - I'm hardly likely to make any fraudulent public liability claims!
Bit concerned about how I now deal with the fact I have had insurance rejected when that question comes up on future insurance applications.
Have you had to declare IVA to insurance providers for house/car etc where not changing provider (if you haven't changed that is?)
Hi car insurance has never asked that question to me. But I have hopefully found a insurance that will insure me. If you go on www.balen.co.uk. theu don't ask the question and when rang the women said to put a note on the paper work which I don't think I will cause it ain't a question. And she also stated it shouldn't be a problem cause you pay ip front. You have different classes and beauty is class 3 which is 100 a year. Not sure if nails comes under a different class. But if you ring them they will send all information via email. It really isn't fair on us cause we are leas likely to get into trouble. I was literally going to give up and my course etc would have been a absolutely waste of money but thankfully i didn't. I tried loads and all said no or it will be a ridiculous amount of money to pay
