Labor or Hard Labor.....you decide!

In prison you spend the majority of your time in an 8'x 10' cell.
At work you spend most of your time in a 6'x 8'cubicle.

In prison you get three meals a day.
At work you only get a break for one meal and you have to pay for it.

In prison you get time off for good behavior.
At work you get rewarded for good behavior with more work.

In prison a guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you.
At work you must carry around a security card and unlock and open all the doors yourself.

In prison you can watch TV and play games.
At work you get fired for watching TV and playing games.

In prison they allow your family and friends to visit.
At work you cannot even speak to your family and friends.

In prison all expenses are paid by taxpayers with no work required.
At work you get to pay all the expenses to go to work and then they deduct taxes from your salary to pay for prisoners.

In prison you spend most of your life looking through the bars from the inside wanting to get out.
At work you spend your time wanting to get out and inside bars.

In prison you can join many programs which you can leave at any time.
At work there are some programs you can never get out of.

In prison there are wardens who are often sadistic.
At work we have managers.

Having experienced prison from the inside myself (purely through work I hasten to add!!!!) it isn't nice. Then again, compare ours with America and they're like a five star hotel!

I had a brilliant idea for the UK's prison problem. Outsource it all to China/Thailand/India/South America. It would be the best use of outsourcing ever!

Not only would it be massively cheaper, the people in them would get the kind of conditions they deserve rather than the nice playstation /tv environment they are used to.

But that would probably breach their human rights.. Not that they should have any in prison...

I've been on a few prison visits (through work!) and I couldn't believe what a cushy little number the open prisons are. At the one I went to the prisoners had the key to their cells, went to work every day and went home at weekends!

I believe they all have to be addressed as Mr/Miss/Mrs now as well and they're not called inmates. We have a prison officer next door to us and he can't believe how they have to bend over backwards so they don't offend them!

Agree Animal.i would make them all open prisons, by taking the roof off in the winter then put it back on in the summer.it would create a bit of work too for roofers i would gladly support the funding for that.we could call it a Roof Tax. 1/2 p in the £ should cover the cost.[^]

They should all be locked up for the full term laid down by the court, the death penalty should be reinstated and the conditions should be like those in the USA.

Perhaps it might dissuade some of them from reoffending.

It's a way of life for some and they feel secure inside, I don't know the answer but do know that our prison service can be far too lenient. My friend works in an open prison local to us and I used to supervise the prisoners in the workplace a few years back. Our college teaches in the prison for them to gain qualifications they have so many opportunities but a lot still choose to re-offend. I don't have to go teach there but wouldn't mind at some point if offered. x

I didn't watch it - I'd get too wound up!

I would make jail the most basic and depressing experience possible! No TVs in cells, no Playstations etc - believe me, they wouldn't want to go back!

When I went to Brixton I couldn't believe that the prisoners were given a menu to choose their week's meals! They'd should have what they are given!

I watched it as I love prison programmes, I'm always intrigued talking to people who've been in prison too, no idea why but they interest me. Last night wasn't too bad Skippy, daughters boyfriends parents, one is a prison guard and the other a prison nurse and they have stories to tell!
