Hi, i finished my iva last september on the 16th. i have been waiting since then for closure. i have had the all clear from grant thornton who took on my iva, i was with blair endersby. but it's now like afew days until it is a full year of completion. i understand there has been backlogs with vat etc from reading forums. i did email grant thornton and i think it was karol who emailed a response back to me this was 2 months ago. but because its nearly a year since finishing and it will be the 6th year does this mean because i haven't had the closeure i have to now wait another year until i am able to start building my credit history. i know it was my fault in the first place for getting into debt i was young and stupid, i paid my dues and did my time. why should i have to wait a year when it's meant to be 6 months. i just want some answers...for this to end, and to be able to get on with my life!
Andy

It does seem an incredibly long time to wait for closure of your case, but there must be good reasons for this. Why not contact the specialist clousre department GT now have in place, and see if they can be more specific about what is holding matters up, and how long they expect it to take to issue your completion certificate.

@toonandy - this is almost exactly the same situation I am in - it is about 11 months for me....my case wasn't passed to closure for 5 months after last payment and is now languishing in closure limbo. I have emiled the closure team as per Karol's advice and just got a generic mail saying it is in closure.....i have emeiled back expression my concenrn and disgust. VAT issues are not my concern, but it would have been nice to get some sort of communication about this....I need to get my credit rating sorted....I cannot believe that after paying my dues for 5 years (at £725 a month) Granst Thorton are now almost literally ruining my future with their inability to do the job - i bet BE would have sorted it by now - absoultely disgusting behaviour and i plan to complain and speak to CAB.

hi mate. the thing whats concerning me is the lack of communication. i emailed them two months ago per karol's instructions too...and heard nothing back. i posted on here yesterday and karol has said to contact them again. i rang grant thornton to see if i could speak to someone within the closeure team, and guess what they have no form of telephone in that section. so again waiting on email. perhaps BE would of sorted it, but i understand from reading peoples comments on various forum posts that they left GT with a lot to sort. I know i'm been selfish and wanting things sorted but i was told you pay for 5 years....which i did...then you would have your certificate within 6 months and able to get on with life....that hasn't happened...am i now gonna be heading for a 7th year before my credit file is clean...? you paid alot more into yours then me i was only contributing £261 a month on a 17,000 debt but still this VAT business has nothing whatsoever to do with us. i'll wait with baited breath.Good luck!

Perhaps another e-mail to Karol directly might help to speed things along for you toonandy69. I wouldn't say that trying to get your IVA closed after one year is being selfish.
