Hi All

Currently Grant Thornton are in the process of drafting our IVA - Nancy Woods who is a client adviser is really really nice but Kevin the nominee has just had me in tears! He rang because I sent a letter to him that we had received from MBNA saying that they may possibly put a charging order on the property - We had forwarded this letter to him as we were advised to do this, he said that he would ring them and sort it out. I tried to ask some questions and he said that he didn't have time to sit on the phone and go through these with me - I thought they were there to help!!! Anyway I then phoned Nancy who was lovely and apologised etc. I asked Nancy if I have to deal with him for the next 5 years because I really can't and she told me that his job is only to collect the information and make sure that it is all there etc. I was really upset and told Nancy that if I had to deal with him for 5 years I would have to go elsewhere but she assured me I wouldn't. Sorry to go on but I just had to say it - Has anyone experienced Kevin at Grant Thornton in Belfast? or is it just me? Can I still change companys even though we have signed their letters instucting them to act for us, although proposal not yet sent to us? Sorry to be a cry baby..[:(]

Oh dear rainbow dont be upset. The trouble is you can always hit on someone who is a bit short on the phone, and when you are feeling low as you always do when things are being sorted it is the last thing you need. Take no notice if you have any queries then ring Nancy she sounds nice, if as she says Kevin is just sorting out the info then you wont have much contact with him after the proposal is sorted. We had different people that we moved onto as things progressed so once he has the info you wont need to speak to him again.
Dont be upset we are here.

Hi Rainbow
Make sure that you get answers to ALL your questions regardless of time issues. An Iva company will be paid well by your creditors and act for YOU and the creditor.
Be strong and be persistent,an IVA is a major life changing experience and you need full support all the way.

I find this somewhat inexcusable, but with GT you rarely if ever speak to the most senior staff. I suppose this fellow was somewhat bemused to be answering questions that he probably feels someone less senior should be dealing with. So I wouldnt read too much into it, you probably will never have a dealing with him again.
I got my IVA via GT, and I had 3 different contacts by the time the meeting date came. Shortly afterwards, I got another contact, so Im now on person number 4! Actually I found the client advisor the nicest person to deal with throughout, so try and get them to ask the senior staff the questions for you! That worked for me. :-)

Hi Rainbow,
I have never dealt with the same person twice whilst in my IVA.
I find it a laugh that they don't know my occupation, or that im'e self-employed and they have lost my file and this is a massive company.
I researched them well and thought long and hard about who to choose.
The real laugh is that I have everything copied right from the first email.
I have been on hold to talk to the IP for 9 months.
When I finally get to chat to him we can both have a chuckle about it.
It's your IVA stay polite and in control always get the answers to your questions.
Be organised don't make it personal.
Best wishes
Adrian

Hi Rainbow

I do not think that this person will be acting as your IP, this is more likely to be Mark Allen or Gareth Neill who are very professinal gentlemen and nice as well!

I am sure Kevin did not mean to be short with you, and sometimes I feel that we (the professionals) can let ourselves down bu forgetting that things which are matter of fact to us - because we deal with them everyday so they become a matter of routine - are hugely worrying and important for you guys.

Someimes I step back and give myself a reality check - especially when it is really busy, as we do need to remember that our nominee's fee is paid for representing you - the debtor - in contract to the supervisory fee which is payable for managing the IVA for creditors.

Hi Rainbow
I too are dealing with Grant Thornton, they are helping with
my bankruptcy, and I have a great IP her name is Gail and is based
in Belfast. I have been given my first court date 4th July, and I
am on the phone to her every five minutes!!!!!!!
If I ask a question she is not 100% sure of, she contacts her
senior, and gets straight back to me.
I dont know what lies ahead for me, but I know she will be there
for me.

good luck to you Rainbow

hi worry wart hope the BR goes well for you, hope you know you are being charged for the services of GT helping you go BR when you could do it yourself and we would help you here for nothing, just a thought, BR can be very expensive when using companies thats all i wanted to say when you can do it yourself with only the court costs, good luck anyway

Will I be landed with a huge bill at some point?
Hope not, cos there are no funds available from anywhere or

you pay for their service for helping you petition your BR, usually payable upfront before they will petition. ask them if unsure, they don't do it for nothing i am afraid, you must clarify this before going any further don't want you to be shocked, do it yourself so much cheaper you do it on line fill the forms in and then just pay the court fees on the day.doing it your self will only cost you £485

thats not easy putting down on paper.
Anyway, shall ring GT tomorrow, and find out once and for all
whats going on.
By the way, read your blog earlier....hope your hubby doesnt
have nighmares about rats!!!!!!

of well fed vermin!!!!

Thanks all so much for your support. In future I shall speak to Nancy she really is very nice.

Melanie you are right I have been told in a previous email that it will be either Mark or Gareth, which I forgot about as I was at work yesterday when this happened.
But I know what you mean about being slow Ivoriva they had all the information and paperwork from us on 1st May and when I spoke to Nancy she informed me that it had just gone to drafting! I was also told that they would contact all the creditors but they haven't contacted anyone other than this one account yesterday with MBNA but that's only because I sent in that letter about the charging order.

Thanks very much for the support its much appreciated. Rainbow
