I have had a few calls and I had already written to everybody myself telling them I couldn't pay properly and wanted a break - most of them totally ignored the letters and started ringing me. I feel now I would have been better not trying to be honest, carried on using the cards for a while longer and then gone the IVA route but we can all think differently with hindsight. MBNA have rung about every 7 days and each time listened to what I had to say and said they would diary. This time when they phoned I told them I had consulted IP and was probably going IVA route, I offered to give them the company details. They seemed to want to be helpful and asked if I wanted to talk to their debtmanagement dept or had I looked at Money Expert, did I know the consequences of an IVA. I thanked them politely but said I was taking independent advice. M&S politely accepted token payments no question and have never phoned. Tesco and Mint who are both RBS have not rung and have only just sent notice of default. Barclays have been dreadful they have kept ringing and at what I consider to be unsociable hours. all they want is for me to make a payment over the phone - I say can't treat them any differently and I told them I was speaking to IP - next word I have from them was a letter yesterday from Mercers so they have obviously got fed up of trying and it may be because I have no ansa phone and I think they keep ringing. I have just written to them all with the letter from Melanie's pack giving Melanie's details as 3rd party. They should have got those yesterday if they were working.

I am a bit worried about the Mercers one though - it says I have until 7th June to pay up and asks me to contact them if I have a problem - I will send them "the" letter on Tuesday but should I phone or just leave it - I don't want an awkward conversation but is it worse if I just ignore.

Elizabeth, I would send them the letter, but really, with the way you're feeling at the moment, I wouldn't call them. I'm sure it won't make much difference to the outcome of your IVA, but it will save you the upset. Viki X

hi elizabeth

mercers were a complete pain with us too! they used to ring 3 or 4 times a day and leave messages! i never rang them back, but if i was in would answer the phone and speak to them, explaining the same thing over and over, going for a iva, cannot make payment as can not treat one creditor preferential to another blar blar blar!
they threatened me with doorstep collection - it never happened - please dont let them get to you - they are just threats to try to get money out of you.

Thanks Barb and everyone else. Yes - I am just sending everything to Melanies team now and my thoughts were not to phone because it won't make any difference and I doubt it would get recorded on file that I had phoned and doing IVA, they would keep ringing me anyway until the message gets through. I was going to fix the ansa phone but I think I will leave it until IVA sorted - anyone that matters knows my email or mobile.

Yes Ang, we were the same. I told people to ring my mobile if they wanted to get in touch.
Elizabeth, try not to let them wear you down, to them it's just a job. Send anything you get onto your ip and if they ring and you answer, just say that you are entering an IVA and your ip will be in touch with them soon, thank them for calling and say goodbye. Stay strong, you're nearly there.
xx
It's nice to be back......

Mercers were the ones who scared me initially too! I just bundled my post up once a week and sent to Melanies office, I had a script for telphone calls and didn't divert from it, if they interrupt, just say I am talking now please listen, they always got bored! You'll know your IP's details by heart in the end I did!
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Including my creditors, just changed my numbers in the end. That stopped all their calls. Only problem then is telling everyone your new number.
We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation.
