Well, the unthinkable is happening, as of today my job is at risk, I am a nurse on a coronary care unit, we have 2 cardiology wards aswell both with 30 beds and the Trust are closing one of them from 1st August to save money, so all the staff from the ward that is closing, plus the rest of us have a weeks consultation period to express an interest of where we want to work, if everyone chooses my unit/ward (which is inevitable when there is no alternative) then we all have to interviewed for our jobs.

I am shellshocked and dumbfounded, along with most of my colleagues, especially as the notice regarding the meeting was only handed to the unit last night at 5pm (for a 2.15pm meeting today) so most staff were unaware that this meeting was taking place anyway.

There is absolutely no way we can continue our IVA if I am not successful, in fact we would have to give up our home as we would not even be able to continue paying the mortgage either without me in some kind of work.

If I am made redundant I would only be entitled to a months wage anyway as I have been there less than 2 years.

I can't see our creditors accepting what we have paid to date as a F&F either when we are only 14 months in lol.

Hi Lem, sorry to hear about the news! Try to stay positive. There may be some old-timers who choose voluntary redundancy or early retirement which will reduce the competition. I

How did the meeting go? x

early retirement and redundancy are not on the cards as the Trust won't pay people off, there are a few that are due to finish in a couple of years but they pay them to retire early.

Meeting was awful, I couldn't go, but have heard the results today and they have basically given us a form to state our 3 preferences of where we want to work in the Trust and they will slot us into any available vacancies if available (they haven't told us where any of the vacancies are though!), we have a week to do this and are now in a 4 week consultation period. I have emailed my IP yesterday but have had no reply.

We're all stunned at work to be honest, morale has hit rock bottom

Hopefully you'll get to keep your position and the re-interview is a formality for legal reasons or to appease the union.

It doesn't make sense to create more upheaval in the Trust than is bsolutely necessary.

Fingers crossed for you Lem. Try and stay positive - which I know isn't easy. Make sure you express your interest in the positions as soon as possible to cover that base. You've contacted your IP so you've covered that base. Not really a lot more you can do at this stage.
I really do feel for you as we've just been through a similar situation and trying to sort it out. Keep us informed of how things progress xx

Unbelievable lem,

Frontline workers such as yourself, emergency services and life saving units facing redundancy???

Rediculous...We can bale banks out but not safeguard jobs of real life savers like you!

What is this country of ours actually coming to whereby essentialy skilled people are at risk of losing their livelihoods because of cost cutting?

I wish you well lem

hi lem, i know just how your feeling, the NHS trust i work for are having a further meeting tomorrow re bed closures and restructuring, we know so far that we are to loose 50 medical beds, which is absolutly crazy when we know ambulances cannot off load outside accident and emergency depts. for upto three hours at a time due to the insufficient numbers of medical beds! where these beds are going to be taken from and what is to happen to the staff we have not been told yet, i am hoping we will be offered something else, even if it means travelling further to another area of the trust, but who knows. if i loose my job i will most certainly loose my house, as a single mum i only have my income, also i still owe my parents for the F&f and i do not want to let them down. such a worrying time for everyone. hope things work out for you x

This is really bad, something should be done about these cuts at the end of the day when there are not enough beds. This is playing with peoples lives with people being discharged from hospital cause they need the bed when the patients really should be in hospital.

They can bail out the banks, yet when it comes to saving lives they cut corners.

Really does make me angry and hope something works out for you.
We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation.
