Hi,

Not been on the forum for a couple of days.

I managed to speak with someone from Northern Rock who said the mortgage redemption statement was sent pn 14/10/10 the same day I requested it - so god only knows where it is.

I am thinking its been posted to one of my neighbours who may have opened it by mistake or just being nosey. As they've opened it probably too embarassed to post it through my door now.

So I've requested another on 27/10/10 and it should be here in the next couple of days as its sent 2nd class. The guy I spoke to was quite nice and did offer to fax it through but I don't have a fax at home unfortunatley so am waiting for it to come through the post again.

Anamae82 and leaKybrain I've added you both as Frugal Friends. Not feeling too good about things this week with Christmas coming up and no credit cards its scary. And I think the car is sounding 'funny' so will probably need to get it serviced or something either that or just hope nothing goes wrong. With the winter coming I always think something will go wrong with car.

x x

Tillergirl we have just included our debt with scottish power into our iva, they said they will close that down and we will start again so we will have a cheaper monthly payment as we wont be paying higher to inc debt!! Thank god!!! Stay positive hun, got to say when my proposal came we checked it and it wasnt 100% our case officer changed some of our payments which meant are 2nd proposal was 100 less. If u feel its tight you need to tell them creditiors want your iva to be safe from failing!! Good luck :) x

Thanks mitchymoo!

How much did you owe scottish power? And who did you change to?

I owe E-on around £200.

I can't see my proposal being made any lower as I am hoping it will be £200 - doubt it would be accepted fot anything less than that.

Glad you got your's to a more affordable amount. There seems to be some incredibly high payments - I read one on here paying £788 and some really low ones, where somebody talked about paying £100 but Melanie Giles questionned it.

It is what you can afford to make and is always individual. We pay £675 between us, some people pay over £1k. It depends upon your circumstances.

I know its what is affordable for the individual...but reading the other post about what it is like to live within the parameters of an IVA you have someone walking round with holes in shoes and clothes you wouldn't give to a charity a shop and then someone else talking about going on holiday. Can't help thinking some people or some IVA firms are a bit 'smarter' when it comes to putiing forward a proposed affordable monthly amount.

I'm happy that the amount I'll be paying will be lower than my current monthly debt payments....and that in 6 years I will be debt free.

I hadn't much of a clue about IVAs before starting mine. I'm lucky that mine is affordable. I'm able to afford clothing, can eat reasonably well and have been on holiday.

You should be able to live within an IVA without too many problems.

I don't think it's about some companies being 'smarter', I think it's more about some companies telling people what their allowances are, rather than them being what people actually spend.

There is no need for anyone to walk around in rags or eat beans on toast forever. Just make sure that you are happy with your alllowances.

My thoughts exactly, couldn't agree more. Just waiting on my draft proposal and hoping everything is agreed very soon.

When you are asked to provide details of your outgoings it is almost impossible to assess if you are like me and never lived to a budget. I think you need to rely on your IP to some extent to tell you want you are entitled to.

I understand the converse view that this may lead people to claiming things they dont actually spend.

However over the term of a 6-7 year IVA when people may be paying £500-£1000 per month. If you can manipulate an access £50-100 per month to ensure the IVA works. Surely this is in the interest of all parties.

Looking back, my original allowances where too low but I am lucky enough to be able to work overtime 1 weekend a month to allow me not just to survive but to sustain over a long period.

Tillerman, please ensure you include everything you can

I agree, I've always been able to afford the necessities such as food and clothing and whilst it's not the most expensive stuff in the world, it's absolutely fine and lasts. It's amazing what you can pick up in charity shops and Ebay these days.

As has been said - make sure you include everything you buy, even down to newspapers!

We feel rich Tillergirl compared to how he was living before all that money on all different debts, we are now comfortable we have a budget for food which is double what we trying to live off!! (who was we kidding) We thought we owed 400 but my statement came through saying final payment 600 i explained it needs to be inc in iva they were really understanding and said once they have letters they will close it down etc.
I dont think for one minute people should struggle in an iva we all need to live, feed, clothe ourselves and our children, and under no circumstances will our children suffer through this iva. I do think if you plan ahead and budget well life will get better. Regards to payments it is different for everyone we pay 233 pm combined. Good luck hun xx

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Mortgage Redemption Statement finally arrived today so I can send the remaining documents off and hopefully a draft proposal will be on it's way to me soon.

Hope to have this all sorted by Christmas / New Year.
