Hi northumbrian69

Many congratulations on your approved IVA. Hopefully you will now stop getting so many phonecalls and letters but I doubt it for the next couple of weeks or so as the news filters down.

Just thought I'd give you a smile by telling you the latest tactic from MBNA
Regards

Dave

Will finish last message now after hitting send in error.

A letter from MBNA today informing me of imminent court action. It says "in a few weeks: you may not be dealing with MBNA as we may sell your debt to an agency; we will not be able to offer you any more deals; your creditworthiness will be severely affected. It will stay this way for 6 years. You may not be able to get a mortgage or a credit card or enter into a hire purchase agreement; if we obtain a CCJ you may be forced to sell any property you own to pay off the debt; your creditors may petition for your bankruptcy. If you become bankrupt you may lose your home; if we obtain a CCJ your employers may be forced to use your wages to pay off your debt directly; if we obtain a CCJ bailiffs may be paying you a visit to seize your goods. They will add their fees to your overall debt.

All straightforward and understandable but as I pointed out to somebody on the phone yesterday my creditworthiness is already shot to pieces and I dont particularly want credit again. Plus as we all know a mortgage is possible whilst in an IVA.

But the reverse of the letter is the thing that caused a wry smile. Its entitled 6 years from now...
It states: "you will severely affect your creditworthiness for the next 6 years. Thats 72 months or 312 weeks. Just think how you will manage without credit until 2013?

It goes on....
Lets take a glimpse into the future - all the way forward to 2013. After all, this is how long it will be before you are likely to have your credit rating back...

In 2013 the Olympics will have happened. Todays kids will have grown into the young men and women witnessing in this historic event.

The cars, buses and taxis driving around the host city will be different too. Todays models will be long gone. Its likely that by 2013 many vehicles will be powered by gas or electricity.

Money could have changed too. By 2013 people in Britain could be using the Euro.

And what will your life look like in 2013?

If you smoke you might not be able to light up in public places
Your current mobile phone will look like a museum piece
MP3 players will be considered old technology
And by 2013 space tourism may be a reality.

And the final line....
"Do you really want to spend the next 6 years living without credit? Call us now.

Oh now you put it like that I suppose I should pay up so I can continue using my credit.

Just off down the garden to water my money tree.

Dave
Regards

Dave

Hi Dave
Well it made me smile, what an unusual way to try and get you to pay.
The statement about court action, employers having to get involved and losing your house are all valid if you just stood back and did nothing about your debts, but your not.
I think they have difficulty in deciding between people who can,t pay and people who can but can,t be bothered.
regards

Congratulations Northumbrian69, gives hope to the rest of us still ploding through the process, still waiting for my proposal from Grant Thornton.

Also waiting for the next installment of the MBNA saga, they've given up phoning just send out a different letter each week, my biggest pain of a creditor at the moment is Morgan Stanley, really don't know how to take no for an answer.

Hello all,

To thebear29uk, thank you for posting a copy of the letter you received from MBNA, I personally have never heard of nor seen a letter of its kind being sent out like that. How patronising!

Hope this information is of use

Dave, how on earth will you cope without being able to book tickets for the Olympic Games?!? I agree with IVA Experts - what a patronising letter, but if we all decide to live without credit what will MBNA do then?

Wow, how funny, it definately did make me smile.

What a desperate attempt to stop someone seeking a legitimate solution to their debt problem.

In reply to MBNA:

Dear Sir / Madam

I write in reference to your letter dated **/**/**.

Firstly, may I point out that it is possible to obtain a mortgage whilst in an IVA.

I will now address the points raised in your letter.

I for one will be glad the Olympics will be over in 2013, although with rising costs I'm sure we will all be paying for them in 3013.

You state that todays vehicles will be long gone. That is not necessarily so. As you have advised me that I will not be able to obtain credit, my current vehicle will obviously still be on the road as I will have no means of replacing it.

If Britain has adopted the Euro it won't make a lot of difference to me, as I will be spending my cash in Euros rather than GBP.

I don't smoke, so it will be a pleasure to be able to go out and not inhale second hand smoke. My mobile phone is already a museum piece, but I can make and receive calls and text messages so it does what it was meant to do. MP3 players are already old technology with the event of MP4 players. Lastly, even space tourism does become reality, surely even MBNA wouldn't give me a big enough credit limit to enable me to participate?

As you may have gathered from the above, I rather like the idea of being credit free to 2013 and beyond.

Yours faithfully

Skippy

Hi
noprthumbtian, congratulations on your IVA acceptance.

The bear, the letter made me smile, I love it.

Skippu, It has worked, took all the keys off, no more sticking, but using a seperate keyboard.

I have nice letters now because my phone is cut off and they are so desperate to talk to me. They are polite to me and ask me nicely to call them, I write back, I find it is so much better.
